NUT ALLERGY need help finding protein!

Recommended Posts

I am on track to be sleeved in March or April. Right now I'm trying to start preparing for this big change and planning ahead. I have a tree nut and peanut allergy although coconut is okay. I was able to find a Protein Powder and Vitamins that are nut free but I'm having a really hard time finding Snacks that are nut free and affordable. All the bars and snacks have nuts in them, and the brands that are targeted to be nut free are over $2 per bar then I have to pay shipping because they are online only! I really like to find a bar/s or snacks that I can get locally that just don't have nuts in them. If anyone knows of anything or anyone who may be able to help I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks :)

You don't need to have Protein bars. I only keep a few in my glove box only for emergency on the road situations. You can try making your own. Here's a site that has lots of good suggestions.

Other nut free snack ideas:

String cheese

fruit & Yogurt popsicles

Roasted chick peas

Fruit & yogurt

hard boiled eggs, canned tuna, salmon and any kind of fish. Frozen shrimp can be defrosted fast.

i also like edamame ---frozen or fresh. i put garlic + onion powder on them.

beef or turkey Jerky, slices of deli meat, string cheese, roast edamame, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, Protein Shakes, pouches of flavored tuna -- there is absolutely no need for Protein Bars or anything like that, which are basically glorified candy bars with whey powder mixed in. Skip them.

I'm not encouraging you to try this, but my brother is deathly allergic to nuts his whole life and he can have sunflower seeds, hazelnuts and Just recently he found out that he can have almonds when someone gave him a Toblerone and he didn't know it had almonds in it. It's so cute, he know sits there and eats Blue Diamonds one by one with a giddy smile on his face. I'm so happy for him.

Are there anything like that that you can have that aren't deadly? Good Luck.

@@getbacktome Weird fact of the day. Almonds aren't technically nuts. They are something called a drupe. They're closer to a coconut than say something like a cashew.

I'm sorry I should have been a little more specific. I have the severe peanut allergy (anaphylactic), all other nuts came up positive in the allergy test so I avoid those as well. I'm sensitive to dairy, and also allergic to all seafood/fish. I know I'm that girl that should be in a bubble lol. I wanted to find a Protein Bar so that when I'm on the go and need something fast I can just get it out of my purse. I'm looking at starting school in the fall and I will have clinicals where I may not have a ton of time to go find something healthy and high in Protein. I do like sunflower seeds so I will keep in mind!

I'm not allergic to nuts but I am allergic to all seafood and a host of things so I can sympathize. Oddly enough my friends jokingly call me "bubble girl".

cheese cubes would be a good grab and go snack.< /p>

You could make you own Protein bars. Use sun butter, dried fruit and oats. Even toss in some Protein Powder if you want. Add a bit of carob chips if you like. Mix it all together and separate into ball s or bars and chill. Then just slip a few in a zip lock bag and toss in your handbag

Make you own granola, with oats, sunflower coconut oil, maple Syrup and mix then bake until crispy.

If you prefer to buy something the LUNA bars are nut free and not too pricey. They also often have sales.

This is good to know... I am not extremely allergic to peanuts.... I can eat things like boiled peanuts but raw I have issues. I have issues if I eat any type of bar that was processed in a place that process peanuts. Most of the time can be handled with a 2 Benadryl.... I prefer not to risk my life and have all my energy zapped.... It would be nice if some of the 'non' peanut flavors could be manufactured at a different plant.

I'm not allergic to nuts, but I could live forever without any nuts. And almost have since WLS 17.5 months ago.

IMHO, you should learn to eat real food post-op. Making Snacks bars a big part of your menus post-op is not only unnecessary, but not even advised.

You'll find recovery and life post-op easier if you are comfortable eating both animal and plant Protein, healthy veggies, whole grains, and fruit.

Your ideal nutritional life post-op is absolutely no different than for those who have never had WLS.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
