Burning pain in upper left

Recommended Posts

I had surgery in 2008 and everything has been great! Recently though, I keep having a burning sensation in my upper left. It happens when I drink Water, even when I'm doing nothing but sitting there. It's intermittent, but I'm worried that it may have something to do with my band. Does anyone have any experience with these symptoms?

Hi I've had similar problems. I've had burning in the upper left part of my stomach. I had my band put in in 2011. I went to the Dr and they took out .2 from my band and told me to take prevacid. I'm worried about band slippage but my Dr didn't seem worried. What did ur Dr say?

I'm going to see my Dr on Tuesday, so I will let you know. When I called the nurse, she didn't seem too concerned. She just said to call if it got worse before my appointment.

That's how mine was too. I have a patient portal to go to register every time and I got a little mad because they called my last visit band anxiety. But I know when something doesn't feel right.

They are not sure what it is, so they want to do an upper gi this Thursday and then I have to see what that shows. If that doesn't show anything, then they want to do an endoscopy. I'm still having the burning pain every day.

They also took out .2 from my band.

Me too! I was banded in 2010. I had heartburn start about 6 months ago (never had it before) and this past week the burning pain is steady making my stomach tender. I can feel everything I eat when it passes that upper left burning spot. I had another problem on top of this I am treating first, then if it lasts another week or so I am going back to the dr.
I had an upper GI about 6 months ago that showed no issues.

It is so tender these past two days I am eating nothing but soft stuff.

Definitely want to hear updates on this post.

So, I had to postpone my appointment, but finally had it. They didn't see anything wrong with my band during the upper GI. Thankfully! They gave me two weeks of an anti-inflammatory drug and if that doesn't stop the pain and burning, then they want to do an endoscopy. ever since the upper GI, I've been nauseous. Not sure if it's the new meds or what. I go back in two weeks, so I will post another update then!

Just checking in to see if you've had this resolved. I am having this same issue, though mine is more pressure/pain than burning. I've had two floro's to see the band while swallowing and have NO Fluid in my band, but am still having this issue.

I cannot eat more than a cup of food even with my band fully unfilled, and even drinking Water too fast gives me that too full, painful feeling on the left side of my rib. I've got a specialist appt with a GI on Tuesday but am totally freaking out.

I am happy to have my band out, if that is the issue, but I am so afraid of something else being wrong.

I went last Wednesday and had 0.4 removed and I still have the burning. My Dr said its just some acid reflux and continue taking the prevacid. But the part I don't understand is that mine was fine until December and ever since then it has given me trouble. I also don't understand is that I'm barely eating but still managed to gain 3.7 lbs. Blows my mind. I would also like mine out but I'm self pay and its going to cost around 11,000. I PD that much to have it put in. I'm just stuck. Will u please post about what the GI doctor tells you. I'm a little curious.

SO, the upper GI showed nothing wrong with the band. They gave me 2 weeks worth of Mobic to see if that helped, apparently it's an anti-inflammatory. That didn't help either. I went in yesterday to have a CT and that didn't show anything on the side that I'm hurting. It did show a spot on my Adrenal Gland, so I had to do blood work and I have to do a 24 hour urine test and I go back to my Dr in 2 weeks. They gave me a months worth of Mobic double the dose because they don't think that has anything to do with the burning pain, though! Ugh! So frustrated! Go in for one pain and they find something else and I still don't know what's causing the original pain. I'll let you know in 2 more weeks. They said if I'm still having the pain, they want to do an EDG.

Same here. Upper GI showed nothing and a band unfill resolved the pain. I am not sure what mine was...maybe super irritated? I was at 8 on an 11cc band, back at 6 with hardly any feeling of restriction (and 15 extra lbs later).

They took out 2 ccs and brought me down to 7 in an 11 band and it still didn't help the pain, but helped me gain 10 pounds so far!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
