I'm heading in for my RNY tomorrow morning and I've got a few questions maybe y'all can help me?

I'll be in the hospital til midday Wednesday.

Will I be lucid enough to get bored, and if so should I bring my laptop with some dvd's/watch Netflix?

Will I physically be up to showering Tuesday morning? /surgeon notes say I can shower whenever I feel up to it/

Did you actually get dressed or just stay in hospital gowns? I got dressed when I was in the hospital for my c sections but I had visitors. I won't be seeing anybody while im there.

I think that's it :) TIA!!

I was in the hospital from Thursday to today. Sunday. I only had energy to use this site from my phone. I'm not a TV person, but didn't feel like movies either. The drugs had me so tired. Talking was exhausting. I was napping a lot the first day, could not entertain anyone. By last night I finally turned on the tube to catch the Whitney biopic. This morning was discharge....

I was. I took my iPad and charger. I had a pretty uneventful surgical course so I wasn't on pain meds. I did't bother to put on clothes but I did shower. It depends on your comfort level in hospital gowns. I went in on a Thursday and was discharged on Saturday.

Maybe take a robe? And walk those hallways a little further each time you're up. You will amaze yourself and impress the nursing staff.

I'm glad you asked this because I too was just thinking what I should pack in a hospital bag! Good luck today! Let us know how you are doing and feeling! :)

I'm done packing my bag, here's what im taking:

3 pair underwear (for tomorrow after surgery if they don't let me keep on what I have, Tuesday and Wednesday)

One pair fuzzy socks

One pair slippers (sketchers memory foam ones - sturdy enough for outside walking)

Heating pad

Tampons, shower stuff, teeth stuff, stretchy headband, lotion, lip stuff

Laptop & earbuds

Phone charger & extension cord

Gas-x strips, spirometer (given to me at pre op appt), my omeprazole, zicam melts, Benadryl (I've still got this damn cold)

I'm not bringing any clothes to wear while in there and will wear home what I wore there.

I'll check back and let you know how I'm doing and what I used or wished I had!

I was very lucid within a few hours post op. I began walking as soon as I got back to my room from recovery. My surgeon did not use a catheter so therefore I had to get up with help to use the bathroom.

I found very quickly that it was more comfortable to sit in the chair vs. stay in my bed. I walked constantly to get rid of the gas pain. I took a shower the very next day. I was on diluadid the first night and then we switched to liquid oral Vicodin as I don't tolerate Percocet well. The issue with that is that other than watching tv, the meds made it hard to read or use my iPad. sleeping that first night was pretty much non existant but I was told that is normal. The amount of gas in your belly from the laporascopic surgery is what makes you most uncomfortable. I had surgery on Monday and was off all pain meds by Thursday. Also, I stayed in hospital gowns the whole time, it is easier to deal with IVs.

I wish you the best of luck with your surgery and hope you have a very speedy recovery!

I was super bored in both pre-op (surgery prep, took a few hours) then a few hours after surgery. I took a kindle and it saved me from focusing on the pain. Highly recommend that you take the laptop or some entertainment device.

I stayed in hospital gowns because I was all wired up. I took a whole suitcase and really didnt use much other than my kindle and my toothpaste/toothbrush.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

I'm doing as well as can be expected.

So far I have used: underwear, slippers, tooth stuff, tampons, lotion, phone & charger with extension cord, spirometer and heating pad and that's it. I can barely keep my eyes open! They won't allow me to take the gas x or zicam, they are providing the acid reducer.

If you have any questions I can try and answer for you :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
