Dumping Syndrome? BM's...And yeah it's all TMI

Recommended Posts

Well, I got it and it's the pits! Anyone else?

If I eat anything that has more than 5g of sugar per serving, I'm full on liquid diarrhea in minutes. I also haven't had a single regular BM since surgery. Am I alone in this?

I've never experienced dumping syndrome - maybe I was too paranoid about it and stayed away from carbs. :P

But at times I did feel like a lawn sprinkler, having diarrhea so many times. My BMs were irregular for almost a year, before things started working somewhat normal again.

In the beginning, it was diarrhea - from the liquid and puree diet. Then onto Constipation - after moving to full foods and eating lots of Protein.

I still don't go but every 4 or 5 days, but at least the problems of constipation and diarrhea are a thing of the past.

Well, I got it and it's the pits! Anyone else?

that sucks.... sorry. I think your body is in the process of a reboot/reprogram that will improve with time. #2 works in mysterious ways. I tolerate sugar very well.... I wish I didn't.... it would keep me honest!!!

Be sure to watch any sugar alcohols like Xylitol, mannitol etc. Alot of those things are diarrhea inducing and they are in anything sugar free. Also, some people become lactose intolerant after surgery so you may want to cut out diary for a week or so to see if that is the culprit.

On a personal question, did anyone who had frequent diarrhea before surgery now have Constipation issues or at least have regular BMs?

I'm having a problem with Constipation. I have to take Milk of Magnesia 2x a week. I havent had dumping but I have had frothing. That happens when I eat too fast or don't chew well enough. Not fun!

Did you find any resolution? I'm 5 weeks out of RNY and experiencing dumping all the freaking time. This morning I had one scrambled egg with cheese and spent the next hour plus in misery. I suffered from frequent Constipation before the RNY and am loving the fact that my bowels seem far more 'normal' now and I have a BM nearly every day. I can't eat any sugar whatsoever or will have dumping, but seem to tolerate fresh fruit quite well - blueberries, watermelon, and peaches so far. The other thing I can count on eating with no dumping is whole milk (and Atkins products, but I prefer whole foods to chemical products). I suspect one of the dumping triggers for me is having more than a small sip of liquid with a meal - I have always had a lot to drink with meals and being mindful of small sips until 30 minutes have passed is quite a challenge for me. Has anyone had dumping like this?!?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
