This is my first post ever (yay!) And I just had my first appointment this past Monday and got my checklist. So far I've checked off my dietitian appointment, psych eval, PCP letter of consent, and insurance acceptance. I have a required support group meeting, cardiac eval next week, endoscopy next month, lose 16lbs, and a appointment with the surgeon to complete yet. I'm doing well so far with being strict with my diet. Any tips for more experienced peeps yet?

I'm still in the pre-surgery phase also, but have been spending time researching smoothies and other things that will be needed immediately post-op. My only advice so far is if making smoothies with red fruit & spinach put in not clear glass before drinking....the color created is a brown slushy mess.

So far the worst part is waiting for the next step, and the next step followed by another step.

Buy samples of different kind of Protein what you like before surgery you make not like after. Taste buds do change. Buy a lot of sugar free Jello, pudding and get broth, Soups cream style, and a lot of them.. Depending on the before surgery diet you may have to do Clear Liquids for a required amount of time.. Mine was 2 weeks. I was allowed cream soups, oatmeal, sugar free Popsicles, sugar free jello, pudding and broth.. And my protein shakes.. After surgery you will follow same diet for a little while.. Buy houseshoes if you don't already have some or thick socks feet will freeze.. A extra pilliow or two as well.. You will want one for your stomach to hold onto it when you cough, laugh or sneeze for about a 3weeks. N the car ride home.. You will feel every bump.. If you can start cutting soda and sugar out now. It makes it easier on you later..

For me personally the wait won't be too long. I attended my first seminar Jan 7 and am looking at a March surgical date. I have all of my appointments for the "next steps" through the end of this month and beginning of February. I can't believe how long some people have to wait.

you are welcome.. Like I said taste buds do change. I loved my Protein Powder before. Now I can't stand it. Taste isn't bad I'm just burnt out on it.. I drink other stuff now but I've been buying the pre made ones In 4 packs and a buy a bunch of different ones and flavors so I can try.. One day you may love it and next hate it.. You get sick of all of it really. But its totally worth it.. I'm fixing to buy some of the nector versions to see how I like that. Just can't decided between the lemon tea, caribanna cooler or lemonade. Good luck..

Hi everyone!! I'm new also. Seems there are a lot of us. I only have my EGD and then surgery on 2/10!! Scared and excited all at the same time. My nutritionist lists Body Fortress as the only powder she recommends after surgery. She also likes the ready to drink Premier Protein and Atkins (blue top only).

Hmm I was looking at body fortress to so far I think it's one of the higher Protein Drinks I have come across. I have only found them in huge tubs an I would like to try it before buying something so big. Walmart online carries Cookies an cream that had great reviews taste wise. They can all very with the grams of Protein an im not sure if higher is better or not....thank you for posting any info is great.

I think different nuts want or advise you to drink what they recommend. I was okay for a few different ones. Profit by it works, slim fast ones, Premier Protein, big train fit mocha. Just look at the sugar in it and try to keep it under 2 grams. Calories under 200 and Protein as high as you can get it. I have heard that casien whey protein is good and keeps you full longer. I will be trying it soon.. The body fortress I have tried the strawberry flavor one before surgery when I worked with a trainer and just half a teaspoon add with it of strawberry Syrup would make it taste like a strawberry shake with lots of strawberries. With out it n mixed with milk it was like strawberry milk but when I wanted the extra treat that would be my dessert with the teaspoon add to it with a little ice.

The big train fit mocha that I have now I add one scope of that one scope of sweet cream by body by via and one or two teaspoons of PB2 and you get a Peanut Butter cup. And since sweets are usually a no go from it causing dumpings if you can make your Protein taste like a shake it will be a life savor. Leave the pb2 out and you have a choc shake.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
