Why different post op diet requirements?

Recommended Posts

I was on Clear liquids x 10 days, full liquids x 10 days, pureed and mushy x 10 days... my doc said they're more conservative because follow up is not as easy when your surgeon is so far away. Strictly safety.

That said, my stages lasted about a week.. yesterday was day 28, I've been chewing real food a couple of days. I feel like crap though and I've taken myself back to full liquids because that's the only thing that doesn't make my stomach hurt.

I'm about 22 days post op and supposed to be in Stage 3 (pureed foods). But, I find I can eat soft foods (so pretty much whatever I want) and still be okay as long as I chew VERY WELL, no chunks.

The only time I have issues is when I eat too fast and overeat on accident. So I try to pace myself to gauge my fullness. That has been the biggest lesson learned. Most things sit okay with me, except fatty and really sugary stuff which I don't need anyway.

Two weeks of fluids for me and now I am starting my second week of purée. I still rely on a shake everyday because takes so long to get blended food in. I don't mind the diet. Most of the time I feel indifferent to food now. It doesn't bother me when people eat delicious foods in front of me, I just feel neutral about the food. I hope this lasts forever but not sure if this is just a short lived feeling. I am 3 weeks out... Any veterans that can comment on this?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
