Out 4 1/2 months from surgery, down 80 pounds...and just found out I am pregnant!

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any good advice for how to navigate this? Proper nutrition? Is it okay if I lose weight as long as I am taking Vitamins and monitoring baby growth? I know my surgeon will probably be unhappy- and I dread telling my parents who might think I "wasted" my surgery.

It still doesn't feel real- this would be our second baby.

Any advice?

The advice should be coming from your OB/GYN and your surgeon. IMHO. But I'm well aware that you already know that. Congrats! !!!

Talk to your doc.

Edit the title of your post so folks can see pregnant. I know there are sleevers who became pregnant post op pretty soon.

Also go to the search and type in pregnant. Many prior posts exist

There are rare exceptions, but we don't like patients to lose weight when pregnant. You need adequate nutrition, Vitamins, etc., for proper fetal growth, placental sufficiency, etc.

You did NOT waste your surgery; you lost 80 pounds that made you healthier to get pregnant, stay pregnant and have a greater start to a less-complicated delivery.

Bottom line: Speak to your Ob-Gyn and have him/her be in regular communication with your bariatric surgeon and nutritionist re: diet, Vitamins, etc.

Congratulations!! [if the pregnancy news is a good thing/welcome news for you!]

Thank you everyone! This is an AWESOME thing, and I am very happy about it :) I will definitely be talking to my doc, it just kind of hit me after the initial excitement that I have a few things to make sure happen in order to have a healthy pregnancy, and of course they aren't in because it's a holiday.

For sure, add your OBGYN to your post-op team. I can offer this much encouragement: your nutrition for this pregnancy will be outstanding compared to the way you were probably eating the first time around. Your quantity will be less, but the quality will be stellar. Take your Vitamins.

I am in a similar boat, i am considering having a baby, i am post op 3 months, and when i suggested to my parents we were thinking of having a baby, they said the same thing " why you just had surgery to loss the weight, why gain it all back" and my response was: i am not going to gain it all back, i am different now and my body is different now. The surgery helped me with a lifestyle change NOT a diet, and i am not going back to that old life.

My husband and i still haven't yet decided if we are going to have a baby, but i am interested in following this post so i can learn more about what is really needed from a nutrient stand point and how to manage the weight & weight loss. Call it Preemptive planning.

Best of luck to you all and happy parenting!!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
