I'm glad I read your post. I'm 8 days post op and I'm still choking down Clear Liquids. If I try anything full liquid, I experience "stacking" and it takes hours to finally make it down my sleeve. Your post encouraged me to get up and take a walk. I did and it almost felt like I didn't have surgery at all. I walked all over Walmart yesterday and I was miserable. Tried on bras and realized that my boobs are blaaaaa. I just had to go sit in automotive ( the only place there was a seat). I was really having a pity party yesterday. I feel better today. I feel thankful that my surgery went well, I'm losing weight daily, and my abdomen does not hurt near as bad as it did 8 days ago. Immediate Postop, I felt like I was going to die. I need to realize that I'm more alive than ever now with a great opportunity to make a real difference in my health, my appearance, and "the new me." Thanks for your post. Bit made me realize that I'm not alone.

We should just post our own authentic experiences and feelings.

Others aren't necessarily feeling or experiencing what you're feeling /experiencing.

I'm almost 3 weeks out.. and Protein shakes make my ill. I can't drink them anymore. My doctor suggested that I get some powder and put it in everything I eat. Which I do but I still don't know how much I'm getting in. I actually cried last night because I feel like I made a mistake and I'm not doing right. I was so happy I ate an 5 oz thing of greek yogurt the other day and it took me 3 1/2 hours to do so. I understand @@April4 feeling bad reading the post here. I felt/feel awful that I still can't drink a freaking Protein shake lol and people that are around the same time post I'm get that in...I struggle just to eat in general. but I have to tell myself if will get better soon. I will be able to get in my Protein some how some way!!

@@GenaW828 - since you can eat the greek yogurt why not mix 1 scoop of Protein Powder with greek yogurt and a bit of fruit? Depending on your brand of greek yogurt and Protein powder that should give you at least 30gms of protein. That's half you daily requirement. Do that once in the morning and once in the evening and you've hit your protein goals. You can then drink your Water in between.

Thanks for the post. I too still have hunger-- I was hoping it would go away but it hasn't. That being said- it is not anything like it was. I also found out that chocolate goes down easy so I got small bars of dark (70% cocao) chocolate which are very filling and good for you! I try to have a serving every day and it makes me feel normal!

What is stacking?

The way my nutritionist described it stacking is when you eat food too fast or food is too thick/dry and just "stacks" in you esophagus. It's the lump in the chest feeling like food is stuck and won;t go down. It's pretty uncomfortable.

stacking sucks....I think the reason it happens to me is my food isn't "wet" enough :(

Just going to add my 2 cents for what it's worth :). I personally do not care to read about other people's troubles. I've had 14 surgeries, starting when I was 15 for various kinds of things. Each one of those surgeries came with risks. I'm Definitely a surgery veteran and it's made me one tough cookie. Symptoms are relative. One person may feel like they are in serious pain and some may feel like that same pain is a 2 out of 10.

I choose not to read posts of complications or complaints because I choose not to worry. Although I sometimes make exceptions just to wish someone well. If something doesn't feel right, I'll call my surgeon and go from there.

My reason for posting the complications I have gone through is a teaching tool. Not to complain. I researched this surgery for 2 years before I had it and never read anything other then you could die. I did not know this forum existed..And at the time here there were others who were struggling to get through the tough times of complications....

Posts have helped others because I have had people phone me, skype me and mail me to ask for support as they need help emotionally, and mentally to get through them..Just as I did! and do..So if you don't need that kind of support that is wonderful for you. But there are others who are thankful to know they are not alone......I know I am....

Surgery veteran or not...what can happen with WLS needs to be said so that people are informed.....And can make an informed decision....

I like the premiere chocolate shakes . The only food that sends me to the bathroom is melted butter ! I am very conscience about my thin hair . I got clip on hair extensions but when your hair is thin it's a job to hide the clips. Wish I would have gotten the ones on a string . I'm 8 months out weight loss is slow but also eating holiday goodies . Started at 254 now 163 . Very happy with results ????

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
