WLS and incontinence

Recommended Posts

Have you tried doing Kegel exercises? I find them to be very helpful. Here's something to get you started:

Good luck!

Gastric Sleeve cured my urinary problems, back problems and constant gas. I'm 6 weeks out and feel so good.

Had surgery 2/3/2015, have lost 27 pounds and my stress/urge incontinence has already improved. I teased my surgeon that he fixed my bladder at the same time he did my sleeve!

Had my VSG 3/3/15 I have noticed that I don't get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I last longer when out and about. So something has changed with weight loss.

@@k9nana, I had the same outcome. No more getting up in the middle of the night 2 or 3 times!

Well Tuesday will be one month post op for me and this issue has really changed. I can go for hours without searching for a restroom and not getting up in the middle of the night. I get to sleep all night too.

I left the hospital without any more incontinence issues. What a blessing!

Update to my above post:

I am happy to report that the vast majority of my incontinence issues have been resolved. I no longer wear a pad during the day or night. Wow, that is amazing to me! Having had to wear them for quite a few years now for the random leaking issues. I have decreased my coffee consumption quite a bit however, from 2 cups a day perhaps to 2 -3 cups a week. Try this - it may very well help you quite a bit. Laughing and sneezing - haven't noticed any issues, but haven't done a lot of both. I really only leaked when I laffed so hard and long that I couldn't help myself..lol. Sneezing, maybe the tiniest dribble noww?? Nothing I would consider wearing a pad for. I don't feel the constant need to pee, that has been reduced quite noticeably. I tend to drink most of my Water in the evening - so I still will get up to go a few times before I actually fall asleep and still will occasionally get up very early morning before arising to go. Still consider that better than the way it was --- used to be every time I rolled over in bed I would leak...ugh. So, I think anyone considering treatment for incontinence prior to WLS should definitely wait until after surgery to evaluate their real need.

Definitely much better!

It was even a qualifying comorbidity for surgery / insurance. :)

Glad you mentioned that part. It's good to know. One more thing for the dr to use to get Medicare to approve WLS.

And the good news is that after losing all my excess weight (I hit goal a few weeks ago), I no longer pee on my way to the bathroom. That comorbidity has gone bye-bye.

:)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
