Has anyone been banded by Drs. PHILIPPE QUILICI or Michael Feiz in LA, CA

Recommended Posts

Hello

I was banded by Dr Feiz on Jan 19th 2007. He's a fantastic and caring doctor that I'm happy to follow up with. If you need any information about him let me know...or if you had your banding with him I"d love to hear!

Hello,

Both my wife and I were banded by Dr. Michael Feiz last year. He is a true professional and provided us with the best care both before and after the surgery. He is always easy to reach when we have questions or need band adjustments. I would recommend Dr. Feiz to anyone considering weight loss surgery, especially the Lap Band surgery.

Feel free to email me if you want more information about Dr. Feiz or you can just check out his website www.keyholesurgicalassociates.com

I have an appointment with Dr. Feiz on Friday 12/12/08 to get the lap band. I'm glad to hear all of the positive thing you had to say about him.

I was banded by Dr. Feiz at his Encino office. My friend is also going to be banded by him when her insurance approves. I found him to be a very qualified, kind and confident doctor. He made me feel very at ease. The whole process for me from beginning to surgery day was only 1 month. I get my first fill Wednesday (jan 7). My friend will begin her lab work process the same day. Also a plus is that the port incision is in the belly button, so I only have 3 very small (1/2") scars that may show after they heal. His office has their own nutrition and help staff to make it more convienient for you. I will update you after my first fill. Good Luck on your decision.

Awesome. Thanks for the feedback. I've seen a variety of people on here post pics of their incisions, and some drs use stitches, some staples, and some skin adhesive (glue). What did Dr. Feiz use for u?

Dr. Feiz used glue. I was sore for a couple weeks, but now I feel great!

I had consult w/ Dr. Feiz, and have upper GI scheduled.

I'm super confident in his abilities. He was patient with my questions and very thorough in explaining the process.

He did a beautiful job on my friend Jitterbug.

You literally cannot see the incision in her belly button the the couple of other scars are mere dots, and I'm sure will fade with time.

My only complaint is I need to have patience for my insurance to approve, but I've been assured Dr Feiz is one of the best for insurance turnaround times. (I have Anthem Blue Cross-CA PPO).

:tongue2:

I had my first fill yesterday (1/7/08) It was completely painless!! First he numbed the port area. Then when he found where to place the needle in the port, I sat up. He then completely filled the band with saline. He asked that I drink a cup of Water slowly until I fely like it was going to come up and I would feel heartburn symptoms. At that point he decreased the saline until I could feel the water go down and the discomfort had passed. He proceeded to do this a couple times. I had no idea it was going to be so involved. I had watched a couple videos on youtube that were about 8 second procedures. I am very pleased so far with Dr. Feiz. He says he doesn't want his patients to get hung up on the amount of "cc's" that he gives. Whatever it takes for food to go down safely is the way it should be. I am on liquids for 2 days, then soft foods for 2 days...that will be the hardest part for me. I will give an update when I can eat solid foods again and maybe by then some weight will have come off:)

I think my overall experience with Dr. Feiz's group is sub-par. After comparing my experience to others, I feel like I got robbed. I had limited or no information pre and post op, a poor surgery day experience, and stuff of that sort. I'm not sure if it's because I'm an insurance patient or what but the assistant I was working with kept assuring me that it's normally not that bad... then why was it so bad for me? Err!

Hey MrRiceGuy :-)

I'm sorry you had less then the best care possible. I am disappointed that we let you down. Please contact me and let me know about your experience so we can improve the care we provide.

Thank you,

Dr. Feiz

Hey Dr. Feiz,

Nice to see you on here. Most of my concerns I've already directed with yourself and/or Marissa. I'd be happy to talk more about it more in private, though. And for the record, I'm 100% satisfied with my band thus far. I love how it's helped me so far, and excited to see what I'll do with it in the future. Feel free to shoot me a private message for more details.

Thanks,

RJ

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
