I didn't even pass gas for about three day after surgery (I'm 9 days out). At day five I'd say I had my first real BM after I was able to integrate more than Clear Liquids. If you're really concerned contact your surgeon and see what they recommend. :)

No, I don't think so. I hadn't eaten for 12 hours pre-surgery and didn't eat again till the 2nd day after surgery - so 2 1/2 days with no food. There wasn't anything to come out of me. It was 4 or 5 days before it happened. :D Then it wouldn't stop coming out. Just take some advice, never trust a fart from today onwards. :P

I had horrible Constipation the first 4 weeks post surgery. It was much worse then the surgery itself. I am now on Peri-Colace once per day in the evening. If nothing happens in the BM territory by 7 days start taking something. I had to take so much stuff including two full bottles of Magnesium citrate which burned all the way down because I could not go. I needed to go but the stool was too hard. Not having enough fluids and the morphine pain meds slow the GI track causing even more Fluid to be absorbed. The combination creates legendary constipation.

Having said all that most people only go about twice a week (some less) because our food intake is so small. I go about every 4 days now.

They started me on daily colace when I was in the hospital. I had surgery on Thursday, came home Saturday and had my first BM Mon. I continued n the colace for the first 30 days post op and have been regular since that first BM.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday and had my first BM (small) Saturday night then again Sunday. It was horrible, far worse than the surgery. The colace did not work at all. I took Milk of Magnesia on Saturday to get things moving and it really helped. I can honestly say on the Saturday after surgery I was about 1 hour from going to the emergency room. I felt terrible. I never knew I would feel so bad from not being able to go. I'm now 5 months post op and have been fine ever since. I guess it's just the initial shock to our system.

Best of luck.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
