I will be 12 weeks post op (roux en y) this coming Wednesday. What is everyone's thoughts about me trying pizza for the first time? My husband makes a pizza with thin crust Boboli, sauce, cheese (4 cheese blend and Parmesan), mushrooms and turkey pepperoni.

I have not yet had a chance to read it but I did thumb through it. A GREAT looking pizza recipe in there and I can't wait to try it. Book is: recipes for after weight loss surgery by Margaret Furtado. There are so many amazing looking recipes in there. pizza, Humus, Sausage and Lentil Soup, Latkes, crab cakes, stroganoff. Looks amazing.

Pita Pizza: 284 calories. 25.6 grams Protein.

Makes 4.

4 small 4 inch whole wheat pita breads.

1 can 6 0z, low sodium Tomato paste

1 teaspoon dry oregano

1 teaspoon dry basil

1 teaspoon dried thyme

4 tablespoons grated parm cheese

1 cup cooked boneless skinless chicken breast cut into small cubes. Or, chicken italian sausage, or ground meat.

1/2 cup fresh slices mushrooms

1 can, 2.5 oz sliced black olives

3/4 cup (85g) shredded part skim mozzarella cheese

Oven 375. Lightly spray a sheet pan with cooking spray. Put on all toppings and bake aprox 15 minutes.

Picture of the pizzas look AMAZING.

NOW, I have to say I have not read the entire book yet so I am not sure when this recipe can be used but it is good to know

that down the road a healthy pizza is possible. Looking through this book raised my spirits. John

I am 10 weeks post-surgery. Been on solid foods for about 2 weeks. I had everything but the crust last week it went well. My concern is whether the crust would cause dumping syndrome and also making sure I keep my carb intake low to maximize weight lost.

I would think you would be ok with a small piece as long as you are not a dumper. If you suffer from dumping you might have a problem with the crust.

I had surgery Oct. 21 and had 1 piece of VERY thin crust pizza (cowboy from Papa John's) I chewed the bejesus out of it and had no issues. Held it to one piece. Last night I had ground beef mixed with Zataran's Dirty rice. and a teaspoon of steamed spinach, again no issues.

I think eating is a very individual topic. Do you have issues with dumping, how has solid food agreed? It all depends on you. Small amounts, high Protein, low carbs.

For me its all about flavor. If I think I am craving something, I will get a taste, a teaspoonful. Craving leaves. Sometimes food I like doesn't even appeal any more, after a taste. Weird.

So trust yourself to make the best decisions for you and I promise your stomach will guide you.

I think I am one of the lucky ones! Never once have I had any issues tolerating any foods during any time during the advancement of this diet through all the stages. No nausea, no dumping, etc. So I tried the pizza...very small slice...and did well. It wasn't as good as I remembered it to be. But it was nice to feel normal and have a meal the same as my husband (Friday night is our date night and always included homemade pizza). It was a nice treat. Next week he will get thin crust Boboli and use low fat mozzarella.

I too, would be wary of the crust for another reason. I'm one of the fortunate ones who've not yet dumped or said hello to anything I've eaten for a second time (I'm 5 weeks post), but I've found that anything bread like will give me that terrible chest pain feeling for a while. My own opinion is it's because it's too dry, but that's just me. I did try a 3x3 inch square of pizza the other day and was ok with it, but as a previous responder said, I ate it very slowly and chewed the daylights out of it.

My surgeon said I can't have Pasta, bread, and rice. I had my surgery in July. When I see him in January (6 months check up) he may say can eat some of these.

My surgeon also told me no bread, Pasta or rice for at least 6 months.

I would not advise it! It can and will cause weight loss stalls. It will give you that why am I not losing weight feeling. I am 10 months out went from 320lbs to 157lbs and I have stayed away from bread Pasta and rice. It is well worth it to stay away from those evil things.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
