Thinking about Gastric Bypass

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone :) I was just wondering if anyone had any advice with going through Kaiser for their gastric bypass procedure? I'm switching my insurance over in January (I was with blue cross but my insurance had a provision excluding wls) so now I'm switching to Kaiser. Just wondered if anyone had any advise on my best way to get approved? I'd be going to a Kaiser in Southern California. Thank you!!

I am so excited for Monday! I started out with the sleeve as my focus but the more I learned about gastric bypass in conversation with other patients and my surgeon....I'm scheduled for gastric bypass come this Monday. I've waited nearly 7 months and did everything I was directed to do. I am confident my life will change for the better as I move forward toward a healthier life. I have some co-occurring conditions that will benefit from surgery and I simply cannot really put to words the overwhelming emotions I have about this. Wishing all of you well as you move through your journey. I'll be back on the grid a few weeks after surgery.

I had my surgery 2 months ago, and I am so happy I did. As far as Insurance goes, you'll have to jump through the hoops and it can take a couple of months for them to approve it. Your primary care physician will have to sign off on it, you'll have to go to nutrition counseling, psych evaluation, surgery education classes, and weight loss support groups after. That's what I had to go through. I wasn't too overweight when I started, but I had the other health concerns that made me a higher risk (high BP, triglycerides, cholesterol, borderline pre-diabetes) so my insurance paid for it. Good Luck! You'll be so happy you did it. This surgery is life-changing!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
