Dehydration symptoms?

Recommended Posts

I am constantly nauseous, I was feeling better when I ate puréed food yesterday, today nausea is back. My skin is so dry and has been since surgery. Put lotion on twice today and you can't tell at all. I constantly feel miserable! If you had dehydration post op, what symptoms were you seeing and what was the outcome (did you need IV fluids, etc.)

One of the symptoms of dehydration is your skin loses its moisture. I developed very fine wrinkles on my face. They made me look like I was 100 years old. Dehydration can also cause Constipation.< /p>

The best solution is to ensure that you are taking the prescribed amount of fluids each day. A product called Bio-Oil (available at CVS) can help take the wrinkles out. An apple each night before you go to bed can help with constipation but you must eat the skin of the apple.

I easily dehydrate now even at almost 2 years out. My only advice is to schedule your liquids. In the beginning, everyone is so focused on Protein but it is dehydration that will land you in the hospital.

I feel crappy and weak, darker urine, but the one that tells me to get busy drinking, is my veins all flatten out in my hands.

If I ever feel nausea, my go to has become water... It makes such a difference! Protein and water! I'm just over 30 days out.

i struggled with severe dehydration for the first week post op because i breastfeed my daughter, and breastfeeding uses a LOT of Water from the body.

my symptoms were Constipation, VERY dark, smelly urine, only being able to output tiny amounts of urine, sticky, chapped lips and when i would yawn, i was making no tears. i felt exhausted, sick and just all around nasty. since i suffer from dry skin due to a thyroid issue, that wasn't a telltale sign for me.

the way i was able to handle my dehydration was by testing my sleeve for liquid input. i was sipping sooooo slowly and it wasn't helping me at all...no matter how many hours i sipped. i was just so thirsty still. so one day i just sipped, and sipped and sipped a bit quicker until i felt "full". i was able to get down nearly 4 ounces of Fluid before i got the full (NOT OVERfull but just FULL) feeling! that was 4 days out of surgery! i spoke to my surgeon about it and he explained that some people indeed can drink large amounts of Fluid post surgery. i am one of those people so i have to be mindful of that by drinking only low/no calorie liquids. i just finished my Protein drink within an hour--8 ounces of fluid. and i do not feel full--i feel satisfied.

that is the only way i could handle my dehydration. by drinking larger amounts of liquid than probably most others can. i drink AT LEAST 2 bottles of plain Water daily. at least two 8 ounce Protein shakes with Lactaid milk, at least 1 cup of plain fat free milk daily and i also drink at least 4 ounces of a lightly sweetened (i only use real sugar no fakies) drink such as snapple white tea LIGHTLY sweetened or cut apple juice. i do this to help give me energy boosts when i know my breastfeeding is taking a toll on me. i try to do this twice a day for energy but the milk is so good it's rare that i have to. so usually i will just have 4 ounces of a lightly sweetened clear liquid (NO soda! YAY!!!).

i can get down all of this liquid and still fit in 2-3 very small meals of either Soup or watered down food (nope it doesn't bother me to make meals into soup). and i feel evenly satisfied all day.

i'm down almost 17 pounds since surgery 12? days ago...this is a lifestyle i can definitely keep up with liquids wise. i HAVE to have alot of liquids or i get very sick very quickly.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
