Exercise log,

Tues 4/1/08: 1 hour walk with a friend and my dog. Not very fast paced, but enough for me to feel good about being out there and doing something.

Wed 4/2/08: 40 minute walk with my soror. Good fast pace. Only a little sweat but I was winded.

Thurs. 4/3/08: skipped walk for some reason. don't remember

Fri: 4/4/08: 15 minute walk with my dog before a BBQ. Ate waaaay too much.

Sat: 4/5/08: 35 minute walk with my dog. It was fast enough for me to come home sweaty and needing a shower. I did well today. I hope to get in another walk later this evening when it cools down some.

EATING

Today I'm planning on eating in the correct order. My 1st meal was lunch. BBQ leftovers: 1 hotdog, 1 ounce pork, 3/4 of a burger, 1/3 of a sausage, 1/2 cup squash, 2 tbspn, mac and cheese. All of it fit on a paper dessert plate. I followed my PA's orders and left for a walk after i finished so that I wouldn't be tempted to go back for more 20 minutes later. Its now about an hour and 15 minutes after I ate and I'm back from my walk. I'm thirsty and drinking H2O. I feel good today.

Good Afternoon Ladies8_4_145.gif

Karri - Glad you are feeling better today. Hope you get the rest you need. It will make you feel better.

Phyl - Darling little guy. Sure is a cutie.

Janet - Sounds to me like you want to eat. DON'T DO IT!!!

I have to tell you guys about my God Smack, yesterday. DH and I met up with DS in town for the annual parade. Beautiful day, nice and sunny, breezy and no humidity. Sitting there, enjoying myself when someone in the parade threw out a handfull of tootsie roll midgets. O-O-O-O chocolate. Got up to pick up a couple tht were in front of me.................over-balanced and fell flat on my face. (after landing on my bum knee....OUCH) Embarrassing. Now that is a real God Smack.

MY NSV for yesterday. DH and I went back into town last night to see the fireworks. It had really cooled down so I grabbed my jacket. OMG ! ! ! My elbows just about hit the bottom of the sleeve opening. That's how big it was. Guess I'm gonna have to get a new one come Fall.8_14_7.gif

TTYL, ladies. HAVE A GOOD NIGHT, DRINK YOUR Water AND MAKE GOOD CHOICES.

Good afternoon. Not much to post. We are going to take out the pain pump later today. I am in a lot less pain today. I was able to lie down in my own bed this afternoon and get some sleep. I still am not able to sleep for more than about an hour at a time. If it doesn't get better by Monday I am going to ask her for some sleeping pills.

I am still draining quite a bit from the left side, but not a whole lot from the right. Still don't have much of an appetite. DH went to the store to get a rotissarie chicken as there was nothing in the house that I wanted to eat. I am at 53 grams of Protein right now so I will get higher with the chicken. I will then eat a Protein Bar or a sandwich tonight when I take my antibiotic so I should be close to 100 grams again. I am trying to eat more...I am just NOT hungry.

Good evening ladies. It's late and I'm sure you are all in bed. I'm just settling in for the evening.

Kari, I love the term "God smack" and so appropriate. Too funny. I wish he'd smack me a little more often. Awesome NSV though. You've got to be tickled with that one.

Phyl, what an absolute darling. My MIL is anti-crew cuts. I think they are the most adorable things you can do to a little boy but she pleads with me every summer not to buzz their hair. I can't do it to her. Aggravates me though because I think she's being completely irrational. He's cute though....you are surely very proud.

SSankofa that sounds like a pretty good exercise log. I like the idea of walking right after you finish eating. It's a good way to keep yourself from taking those last few bits. I'll maybe have to try that. There is no way I can eat after I walk. Drink Water maybe but no way am I putting food in for at least an hour. I'm not sure about the food...a lot depends on your portion of stuff but there is no way I could eat a hot dog, 3/4 of a burger, some pork, and then add mac & cheese. Today I couldn't even get 3/4 of a grilled snack wrap at McD's in. My NUT says to consider a cup all you can eat. ... and a cup is about the size of an average person's fist. I know everyone's guidelines are different, just thought I'd share mine. I like the fist analogy because when I dish my plate I can compare it to my fist and decide whether I'm over doing it. I did horrible on the veggies and fruits today though. I really need to get it in gear. I need to get back to tracking on dailyplate.com because I do a lot better when I track. Have you tried that? I'm a little addicted to technology so I think it's kind of fun.

Okay....I'd better get to bed. I can't sleep in tomorrow because I'm reading at church. I'd hate to be all bleary eyed for that. I'd be so embarrassed.

Oh...forgot to give my stats for the day. liquid 75 oz. food, grilled snack wrap, 1/2 taco salad wrap, two tootsie roll midgies. Going to get some kashi with blueberries in before bed. Exercise, walked the 5k route....from home it works out to be about 4 miles (I have to drive it to make sure) and ran about 1/2 mile of it total.

Wii weigh in was great but official weigh in isn't until Monday so I'm not going to jinx myself by adding it. Still don't know if I'm going to make it to size 8 before MofA trip but I'm going to fight for it.

Okay.....goodnight ladies. Have a great Sunday.

Thanks! He's a sweetie!

Didn't really have any choice... he wouldn't sit still or stop crying, so we had to wrestle him and buzz it! DD was sad when it was over, but by the end of the afternoon, she was liking it. Just a shock at first because he looked so different.

Okay.....goodnight ladies. Have a great Sunday.

You keep talking about that kashi so I bought some today. Might have it for Breakfast tomorrow.

I was pretty tight today... popped too much Papaya trying to settle my stomach down, and one little can of pineapple juice. Every time I ate a little of anything, I'd get stuck. Had a small omelet for Breakfast, tuna melt for lunch... on one slice of Sara Lee bread, about 4 oz salmon for dinner with 1/2 cup corn. Had 7 crackers & a little tuna for snack tonight.

Did 50 minutes Wii exercise.

Broke my skiing record, finished tilt table, advanced level, a couple of rounds of soccer didn't go that well.

Phyll, I love the kashi! I like the go lean crunch best but the stuff that looks like sticks has more Protein and fewer cals so if I add fruit I eat the other. I put a packet of splenda and a bit of milk. It's the best. I hope you enjoy it. When I get stuck on everything else I can get kashi down. It makes me stay full too because of the Fiber in it.

Well...off to church. Talk to you all later.

The one I bought is Honey something or other. I didn't want anything that listed "TWIGS" as one of the ingredients!

We go to late church, so I have time to read the paper before I go get ready.

Kari - To funny yep boredom = eating but since I plan plan plan - I have been ok - I made mini banana puddings - I have these little 1/2 c containers - 1 reduced fat nilla wafter - banana - another cookie more banana - sf banana cream pudding - with lite cool whip poured over/and 1 more cookie - 3 Cookies x 16 48c - banana 50 - sf pudding/cool whip 40 = about 140 calories max - it was very good and I only had one - I find if I cook - it helps - I just make healthy foods. Yesterday I went to the gym 3.5 miles, cames home swam/sunned - napped- watched tv - read and Calories for the day 1000... So I am ok...

Loved the God smack - and NSV.

Karri - good to hear that you are doing so well and getting your Protein - let us know how the doc appt goes tomorrow..

Phyl = great exercise and I got the other kasha stuff too - I am not into twigs either :P Isn't it funny think we need a tweak in our fills and then we get stuck..

Why did you cut all that beautiful hair :) off... but he is still a cutie.

Steph - Yes fight for that 8 you will get it...

Ssankofa - Great exercise

Good morning. Pain is down to almost zero and my appetite is back a little. I actually wanted to eat this morning. I stepped on the scale this morning and it read 145 but that is will all the bandages on and all my clothes on. So I am definetly lower than that. The draining has slowed WAAAAAY down. In fact I am hoping that the right one wil come out tomorrow at my post-op appointment.

However...the ITCHING IS KILLING ME! Did anyone else have incredible itching. I feel like I have bugs crawling underneath my binder. I didn't have Lipo so I don't know why it is so unbearable. I am actually itching everywhere...but under the binder is awful. I had my first experience with a bowel movement yesterday and that was NOT fun. I have been taking stool softeners but it didn't help yesterday. So I doubled what I was taking for future encounters!

Again I hope to post pictures tomorrow!

I did sleep much better last night. Still not sleeping through the night and I will ask the doc about that tomorrow, but I slept for longer periods of time and when I woke up I didn't stay up as long.

As for the Kashi...I live on that stuff. I do eat the one with "twigs" in it and I mix it with dannon lite and fit yogurt since I can't do milk. I love it. It keeps me very full. The go crunch stuff I mix with my fruit at night for desert instead of granola. The Kashi waffles are good too. 160 calories for 2 of them. Then I add some sugar free Syrup.

Well I need to post on my blog and then we are going to go walk around the building once. I haven't been out of the house since the day of surgery and I am getting a bit of cabin fever. I will check in later.

Itching - is healing of the incisions - just pat them.. Good for you to get out and get some fresh air - funny how we don't know how much we use our tummy muscles to got #2 :) - how long till you get to shower?? I remember when I had my gall bladder out back iin 85 (they still cut you back then) I was so glad when the took the staples out and I could take a real shower not a bird bath and wash my hair - and I remember how exhasted I was after that shower...

I will eat Cereal at night too if I want sweets - I can't find the waffles at Stater bro - I do have special k but haven't tried them yet and I got some sf sruype too - I forget I have them - I havent eaten yet today so may just try them I am getting hungry.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
