Peaches - My Nurse, the fill nurse, said that the band is a semi-permeable membrane. That's why she pulls all the fill out each time to see what's still in it. I think that may be why it's so important to drink a lot of Water. If you get a little dehydrated your body may take the Fluid from the band. I'm just guessing here, but it sounds logical.

Ruby - Welcome back, and Congrats!

Hey, Where da hell is Chim?

Happy Holidays Everyone!!

I haven't posted in a while but I'm happy to say that I have lost 40 lbs since being banded and it feels lovely!! I stopped going for walks for a long time due to the colder weather and a tighter schedule, but I just got a dog so I'm forced to walk her for at least 10 to 15 minutes daily. Now I'm forced to go for walks or doggie will do her business in my apartment and I don't want that to happen. I excited about what's to come in the new year. The fact that I have my band and my dog is giving me real hope that I will reach my weight loss goals.

Wow! Didn't know that! Makes perfect sense. Wonder why my doctor didn't tell me that!? He and his nurse practitioner acted like they didn't know where the missing 1cc went! Good explanation. Thanks for sharing that.

I have a very bad case of the munchies today. There is just TOO MUCH food every where I go and it smells soooooo good. It's really getting me down. If i sample a little I feel guilty, but if I don't I start feeling sorry for myself. My band is doing it's job and keeping me from eating too much at any one time, but I my will-power is exausting me. I am getting a lot of exercise walking away from the food, but I'm not feeling good about it.

Hang in there, Kid! Soon it'll be over (THE HOLIDAYS)!! Went to Sam's today and the samples were all healthy.. I had one shrimp, two bites of pork loin, two bites of apple/chicken sausage and a small piece of a sandwich. Not too shabby and that was my lunch. We can do it! You're doing okay!

Getting a dog was great strategy!! An admirable decision!! Good for you. Now you HAVE to walk! I wish I had something to make me go to Water aerobics when the wind is howling like it was this morning! We stayed in! Too cold and windy, so no exercise today. Besides, I'm trying to get rid of this sinus crud that is STILL hanging on!

I got it!! Now if I do it a few times I won't forget again!! I know that's the 2nd time (at least) you told me how to do it!!

We didn't sleep well last night at all... the wind was really howling all night long. And in the middle of the night I was really hungry and I thought of you!! But I didn't get up because I couldn't think of anything in the refrigerator that was worth raiding! We have Santa hats on our two big rear view mirrors outside. So the next door neighbor came knocking on the door this morning with one of the hats in hand and said "Your Santa came down our chimney!" I'm surprised our satellite dish was still standing, but DH says he has the tripod mega anchored with tent stakes! Guess the wind wasn't blowing that bad on your side because when we went over to the Sam's/Wal-Mart in Rancho Mirage.... NO WIND!!

Hope you're having a great time at your party this afternoon, and making EXCELLENT choices!

Merry Christmas Ssankofa - too to here from you - Glad to hear you are the proud new Mommy to your Fur Baby- What's your baby's name. I have 2 and love them dearly - I don't have to walk them - cuz we have a yard and bear has bad hips - and i think baby does too - Good gooing on the exercise.

I have a very bad case of the munchies today. There is just TOO MUCH food every where I go and it smells soooooo good. It's really getting me down. Linda - it's ok to sample - don't feel guility a taste of this or that isn't go kill you - the only lesson i want us to learn is to be able to say no to the food - that's what our problem was before - we never said no to food - and we ate high calorie foods every day or ate healhty food in large quainties or both..

Today - was my office party - I skipped Breakfast (now mind you i didnt raid the fridge last nite) cuz I was so busy trying to get stuff bound and billed - lunch at 1 - I was starving !!! had 1/2 c gucamole & 10 chips - 3 poppers (yellow chili peppers filled with shrimp) - 1/4 c of carnisada (meat) and 1/3 cup Beans and 1 small (silver dollar size) cookie.. i skipped the tortilla - not cuz i can't eat them - i can eat anything - it's just i figured i had chips didn't need the tortilla - trade off..

I am full right now.. and it's 5 - to nite it will be fish rice & veggies

I haven't exercised in 3 days - wake - shopping wrapping and today just to full from lunch - I will go in the morning and do minimum 3 miles and will try for 4 since i haven't gotten my quota in this week and I will go Sunday and Monday...

Tomorrow is the famous cookie day for me ;) so I have to be very careful or i can completely blow it - But i do have a plan - so that's in my favor - I am allowing myself 5 cookie minimum- and my DIL will be making dinner - I don't know if we will make the tamales or not.

Phyl

I think we might have had just a tad of wind as my cigs were on the ground not the table when I got up this morning.. But nothing like what you are discriping - DHS can be VERY windy - I use to get alot of sinus problems when I lived there...

I was very happy this morning that I slept all night - heck if I could do that I would lose another 10lbs like that :(

As you can see in my reply to Linda - I did ok at our party imho...

Looks like I am not going to make the exercise challenge this month

even if i exercise 22 23 24 26 27 28 29 31 - that's 8 days and i have 10 = 18 well 18 out of 31 during the holidays is pretty good..

I've been online, but playing on "jibjab" all night. I've been so frustrated because every time someone sends me a web-based video, like from YouTube, for instance, my browser security won't let me see it. I do my best to stay loyal to Microsoft because my son-in-law works for them, but I changed my default browser to foxfire tonight and I've been playing online with videos all night! They have some free videos that you can put your own pictures in. So I uploaded a bunch of pictures and made some funny videos.. snowball fight & Christmas Tree. Fun. Okay, I was bored!!

My oldest daughter tivos amc every day and watches it when she gets home from work.

First day of winter tomorrow. Enjoy your cookie making. If it's not windy we're going to go to the COD. Haven't been there yet since we got down here.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
