How's my calories?

I'm just shy of two weeks post sleeve. I'm actually gaining weight at this point, which is really freaking me out.

How many calories should I be eating at this point?

im kind of worried that you dont seem to have any guides or plans. that scares me. most people ive seen dont hit the puree stage until later than where you are at. Can you give us an idea of what it is you are eating and drinking? Im praying you weren't drinking like Protein shakes for weight lifters instead of diet ones. Heck my plan calls for three to 4 weeks of liquids before i would even hit the puree stage.

My plan calls for a week or so of liquids, the puree, then soft. I'm eating soft already. The purees just weren't doing it for me.

You are approaching the famous 3 week stall. Happens to everyone. The best advice I can offer is to stay off the scale. I only weighed like 3 times in the 1st month postop. Eating healthy and creating new habits are more important than the scale at this point. Just concentrate on AT LEAST 60g of Protein, 64oz. Water and your Vitamins. I've never counted calories, so I can't help you with that silly "numbers game".

Wow - Kindle - You've done GREAT! I'm one inch shorter, and started about 4 pounds heavier, but I'm headed where you are now.

Hey, I'll be here waitin for you! Good luck with everything. Seriously, just trust the process, make good choices and enjoy the NSV's! My rings fitting again was the first of many for me....what about you? (And, BTW, I had small weight gains and some pretty long stalls along the way, but the overall trend was obviously weight loss)

My doctor gave me a handbook. Weeks 1 -2 full liquids, Weeks 3-4 pureed foods, Weeks 5-7 soft, after that regular food. calories for week 0 - 7: 600 -800 for females. After that between 800 -1000 although my nutritionist wants me to stay closer to 800.

You should also be drinking between 48 - 64 ounces of Water and beginning to exercise, even if it's just walking. If the pureed was leaving you still hungry you should have called your doctor or nutritionist.

If you feel like you are gaining I'd give the nutritionist a call and review what you are eating,

Hi Kindle - My apologies for barging in on this particular conversation, but I couldn't help notice your first sentence about the "Famous" three week stall. I'm coming up on 4wks post op (tomorrow actually). The scales haven't moved for me in the last two weeks, aside from up and down 1kg. So can I reassure myself that this is indeed normal??

I confess I'm sucking BIG time at getting in my requisite amount of Protein. My visit to the surgeon last week didn't give me much info - he told me not to worry about protein and to focus on eating well. And I visited a dietician last week and she made it seem so easy to get my protein in, but I'm struggling.

I'm working on about 700-800 calories a day and I'm walking every second day at this stage, with the hopes of progressing into light weights end of week.

I'm really starting to panic as my biggest fear with this surgery was that I was not going to lose weight and here I am, nearly a month post op and haven't budged weight in two weeks.

So any advice, opinions, suggestions and help will be greatly, greatly appreciated!! And once again, my apologies for barging in on this post!!

I hope you don't mind if I give you my input. I hit that dreaded stall at week 3 and it lasted about 3 weeks. Just stick to your program. Make sure you get your fluids and Protein in each day. The scale will move again. It is extremely frustrating, but it will be worth it. Our bodies go through shock. I am almost 4 months post op and I have had a few stalls. What has helped me is to just keep going. We are creating healthier habits. I am not sure if this helped. ????

For me I have to focus on getting in the Protein. My nutritionist also did indeed advise staying close to 800 calories, but the key is Protein and Water. If you are sure you are getting in the protein, try tracking it. Even if you don't use and app like Myfitnesspal, make note of how much protein you get in.

I only weigh myself when I go to the doctor so I may have had a 3 week stall and was unaware. I was weighed day of surgery, at my 2 week post op and at my 6 week follow up. I was down 26lbs at 2 weeks and another 6lbs at 6weeks. I won't get weighed again until I go back to the doctor next month.

Yes, most everyone goes through a stall around three weeks out. I'm not sure if I did, because I didn't weigh myself that often that first couple months. I don't even own a scale. I was sick with non-surgery related stuff and went to the doctor many times between weeks 6 and 15. Since I was getting weighed everytime I went in, I know I gained 3 pounds and then stalled for a month at around 6-7 weeks. Then there was the third time I needed IV fluids for dehydration. I actually gained 11 pounds in one day. Just goes to show how much Water weight can affect the scale. But Once I felt better and could eat and drink more, I started losing again. After a few months I started weighing myself once/week at work so I had something to enter on my ticker. I'm fully clothed, with boots or shoes (and long underwear these days) and sometimes weigh in the morning and sometimes after lunch. I'm more interested in the overall downward trend than the small daily and clothes-related variations of the numbers on the scale. I have had several stalls along the way, but still managed to lose100 pounds in less than a year.

In fact, stalls are SO common and people get so upset about them that there is a subforum dedicated to stalls...."Don't Sweat the Stall Stuff". You may want to check it out. But my best advice is to stay off the scale. Concentrate on eating healthy and establishing new habits. Judge your weight loss by how your clothes fit and other NSV's. Actually, If it hadn't been for the doctor's scale, I wouldn't have known about that long stall because I dropped a whole pant size during that month I didn't lose a single pound. Try and enjoy this wonderful gift!

As for protein, are you using Protein shakes? I didn't consume anything that didn't contain protein that first few months. It was actually easier to get in enough protein than enough Water. And even at 11 months out I have a big protein smoothie with 30-40g protein everyday. Two of those and you'd easily be at goal. There are good protein ideas for all stages in the food and nutrition subforum on here.

Good luck! Just trust the process, eat healthy, drink and stay off the scale. It will happen!

Sadly, so far is less of a stall than a reverse. I lost 20 pounds the week of surgery (surgery was a Monday) and gained 10 back the next week.

I'm scared

Unless you ate 35,000 calories more than what your body needed that week you DID NOT gain 10 pounds of fat. And I'm willing to bet you didn't get even 10,000 calories. Water retention plays a huge role in what the scale says. (Did you read the part above about how I gained 11 pounds in one day?) So I'm going to say it again....if you can't deal with the normal fluctuations that go along with this process, then STAY. OFF. THE. SCALE!!!

I am 4 weeks post op, and the past week I had gained 2 pounds. This morning I was finally down another pound. Hoping my "3 week stall" has passed. As far as diet goes yours sounds a lot like mine. I am actually already on my lifetime diet. As week 2 I was also on soft foods. All surgeons have different plans and orders. I've had zero issues with any foods or drinks. I still follow the no sugar, high Protein lots of Water. Sometimes I hit my 60g of protein sometimes I fall pretty short. I have lost 29 pounds and I feel pretty good. Your body will go through lots of fluctuation during the next couple weeks. It's adjusting to the shock. And I rarely get over 7-8 hundred calories in. Good luck to u!

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
