A little scared this has been pretty easy for me.

Recommended Posts

Sleeved 10/20/14. Since surgery down 15 lbs but hit a stall and haven't lost any in a week. Not worried, I know this is normal but I actually gained a lb (Water weight I hope). I think I've had a pretty easy time of it so far. After 9 days doc put me on soft foods. Go to foods are tuna, scrambled eggs w/cheddar cheese, split pea Soup & cottage cheese. Trying not to waste calories on foods that don't have Protein. But...

I've had no problems with nausea after the first couple days from pain medication and very little pain other than gas for a couple days. Of the other foods I've tried, nothing has upset my stomach and it all tastes so good and I'm able to easily eat 3-4 tbls already. I was actually hoping to be turned off by food for awhile.

I'm scared that it's been too easy, it will too easy to fall back into old habits. It's so hard not to pop that French fry my kid is eating, into my mouth knowing it won't bother my stomach at only 3-weeks since surgery.

@@llmccay1, I can actually relate. Most things go down w/no problems ( I had a problem w/fish only-just felt uncomfortable going down) but I can eat quite a bit as well. I make a conscious effort to stop when I've reached my allowance. I was hoping that I would be one of those people who felt full after 2 bites but unfortunately, not so.

As we know, this surgery is not a cure, it's something we're going to have to work at on a daily basis.

Hi I have the opposite problem, sleeved 10/22. Lost 36 lbs which is great but dr still has me on Clear Liquids because i had to be hand stitched and not stapled. No nausea, or pain except hurts when i drink or eat anything. And i feel overly full all the time. Im getting dehydrated can only consume about 16 oz per day and that is pushing my self . Anyone else having this issue?

It has been easy for me as well its just the incision healing Im struggling with and the food part. I actually rather stay on liquids because food just sits in my esophogus. I wish I had done this 4 years ago when I was struggling with me weight instead of being depressed the whole time.

I was sleeved the same day 10/20. I am down 12lbs and stalled all this week. I am also not having any problems getting anything other than Protein Shakes (yuck) down. I have wrote it off as being a revision from band to sleeve because I know how to chew, but it does worry me.

It was very easy for me until recently when my body smiled, said "that's enough, dear" and decided to hang onto every last ounce. That's okay, I know it's trying to keep itself (and me) from starving to death.

I didn't get to hit Onederland before leaving for a conference this coming weekend which was a personal goal. It's tough, and I'm not happy, but I also wasn't willing to do anything crazy or risk injury before leaving as we'll be doing a lot of driving, sitting, and walking.

When I get back though, LOOK OUT!

I am so glad to read all these posts!!

I was sleeved on Oct 27th and my recovery has been, I don't want to say easy, but fairly pleasant. Not at all what I was expecting. I had no pain really, and I am a BIG baby. I had one rough day when a Protein shake I tried didn't sit well with me, but no throwing up or anything. I have been walking walking walking since day one at the hospital.

I started mushy foods on this past sunday the 9th and everything I ate has agreed with me and gone down really well. I am logging all my calories, Protein and liquids. Been having one shake or Protein Drink a day and still reaching 60-65grams of protein a day.

Yesterday for instance I had one egg scrambled with 1 cup shredded cheese cooked with it for Breakfast. I was able to eat the whole thing in about 20 mins. I see so many people on here barely able get three bites down let alone the whole thing?? Today for lunch I had 1.5oz of tuna with 1 tbsp. light mayo and a WW cheesestick. I was again able to finish it all in about 25mins.

I am hoping I am doing the right things, I see my doc for the first time post op on Friday. I feel really good, I still can get tired here and there. My incisions are healing nicely. I am down 24lbs in three weeks since pre op diet, 15lbs in two weeks since surgery.

I would much rather get my protein from food instead of Protein drinks but am wondering if it is to soon for that or am I okay since my sleeve seems to be ok with it?? Last couple days my calories have been at around 500 for the day, and I was at the gym both days walking 2.5 miles in an hour.

I keep telling myself to be grateful that my recovery is going the way it is, but I just want to make sure I am doing everything I can for long term results. :)

I was sleeved the day after you. I'm also down 36lbs and having the exact same issues. I'm really really struggling

I completely relate. I was sleeved 10/14 and, with the exception of the one night I was in the hospital, I have had almost no discomfort. I've never taken my nausea medicine even once, no heartburn, no dumping, etc. I have yet to eat anything that upset my sleeve in any way. I'm eating 2-3 ounces of fish or chicken at a time with no issue whatsoever.

The whole thing makes me really nervous. So far I havent eaten anything bad, but Im afraid that once I do try it and my sleeve doesnt yell at me it will be harder to have self control.

Plus I feel like my weight loss is REALLY slow. I lose 16 pounds in the first 8 days - obviously not slow - but in the three weeks since then I've only lost 9.

Sigh.

I too had an easy time with regards to recovery. I also can eat more than many. I listen to my stomach and go (stop) from there. Just one bite to many and it returns.

My difficult days were learning to eat and drink. It took me 3 months to get a grip. Sooo frustrating. One month I could barely get anything down I was always sick to my stomach! It eventually passed and it finally came together.

I have hada a really easy time and feel the same way. I am 6 days post op. I haven't had much pain, nausea, or anything and added milk based cheese Soup with no chunks tonight and for first night I feel like I had "reel" food. Outside Protein shakes (thank the Lord!) Protein Shakes were getting very old!!!! Just trying to figure out the next thing to add into the mix

I've had it easy from day 1 as well. No issues at all. In fact I quickly went back to logging on Myfitnesspal in order to make sure I was eating correctly. I think it's good to post positive experiences. So many threads have people talking about pain and nausea, you need these types of post to balance things out.

I totally agree. Who complains about something being easy? me! that's who!

I haven't had the pain or discomfort that I was expecting. I was sleeved 10/30. I still seem to like the smell and taste of food. I can eat more than a 1/4 cup of my puree food. I have no actual feeling of fullness. It all scares me. I don't eat more than 1/2 a cup of food and I take 30 - 60 minutes to eat it. I do it on purpose because I'm trying to learn not to eat so fast and that's what the NUT/Dr instructions state and luckily I don't feel hungry.

I feel like I'm still obsessing about food only it is different... it is am I getting enough Fluid or Protein? is this puree of soft foods? am allowed to eat this or should I wait?

What am I going to do when I am allowed to eat normal food.... what if I don't ever feel food? How will I know what to do?

I still feel like a bit of a freak when I read of people being further out than I am and only being able to eat a few bites at a sitting. My loss is great, my energy is through the roof, and I'm actually taking the stairs to the 3rd floor of my hotel rather than hitting the elevator because the stairs are right there. I would've NEVER done that before surgery!

Just keep remembering this is YOUR journey and it'll be different than everyone else's.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
