Pre-op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to start the liquid diet. Does anyone have any advice on how to help out the hunger? I know it's going to be very hard but also very worth it. I need some ideas to keep me from cheating. I have to do it for 4 weeks.

@@holliwood1980 Hi! You didn't say what your post-op diet consist of but try to eat/ drink something every few hours to keep hunger at bay. Stay focused on the prize. You can do it!

@@holliwood1980 Focus on the goal and benefits. Drink low cal/no cal fluilds. Avoid sugary drinks like the plauge. And dink drink drink, then, when your done drinkng..... drink some more.

With myself, I found that I felt hungry when I didn't drink alot. Keeping Fluid in my stomach helped me alot on the pre-op diet.

Good luck.

Following, I too am worried about this aspect of my liquid diet. I start mine next week, only 2 weeks, I can't imagine having to do it pre-op for 4 weeks. Good luck!

I stated my liquid diet today, surgery is next Monday 11/17/14. So far I have been ok with Atkins shakes and broth. Going to get some Jello and yogurt too. My doctor said I could eat oatmeal too but not a fan of the consistancy of it so I won't be eating that. Good luck to you, I don't know if I could do it for 4 weeks (unless that counts with post op).

Ive been on my pre op for 12 days. I can have a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch and eat a meal of either chicken fish or turkey with green leafy vegetables. sugar free non carbonated liquids in between. I've already lost 24lbs. I'm not sure if that's normal or not or if I should call them about it. Anyone had any similar experience or what did you lose on it?

I did my pre op diet for a week to try it out and make sure I could do it when it was actually time to do it. I lost 13 lbs. Now Im officially on the pre op diet and so far have lost 11, in 5 days.

I'm feeling better today on day 3. I was dying Monday, yesterday I was down and depressed, and today I'm good. I can do this. It's starting to hit me... In just a little over a week my life is changing again.

My doctor recommended taking a Metamucil caplet daily if hungry. It helps a lot but not sure if yours will allow it. It also helps with regularity :)

I forgot to mention it is the pre op liquid diet. I am allowed Protein drinks, Popsicles, Jello and broth.

I am on day 15 of my liquid diet consisting of Diabetic Boost and Water. I'm allowed 4-5 Boost and unlimited water... it's been tough.

The first 4 days sucked! I wanted to eat everything, I felt so empty and miserable. But it's gotten easier though! I'm just keeping my eyes on the prize. It won't be long before I'm eating again. That's what I keep telling myself. Haha haha

My advice would be to keep drinking drinking drinking. Don't go longer than a few hours before having something because you might get too hungry and want to cheat. So keep a water bottle with you at all times and like every 3 hours have a shake.

Good luck! You can do this!!!

Sheena :-)

Wow my liquid preop was only 2 weeks. But after day 4 I had no more hunger. I drank a lot of beef bouillon, Protein Shakes, crystal light, and some strained Soups (which weren't too enjoyable). Bouillon cubes were my best friend.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
