Week 6 check in 40 lbs gone

Recommended Posts

Have my 6 week check in today with my surgeon and I have lost 40 pounds in basically 7 weeks because I was only on a 1 week pre op diet . I was told i am doing very well and I'm doing what I need to do and keep going but he kept saying I need more Protein and more protein ...I'm eating as much meat as I did before the surgery and every diet I've ever been on requires 4 to 6 ounces of the protein each day... I'm getting that !! I just don't understand why we have to have so much protein when the normal amount is usually what we are eating...

Congratulations!! 40 lbs. gone is amazing! I think with 80% off our stomachs gone that our bodies aren't processing enough Protein. We need all the Protein we can get to keep our hair from thinning and falling out. I am all about that.

60 grams a day is also my target and I had surgery 7 weeks ago. If you check the Protein calculators online they require pretty much the same and this is not considering surgery. I think that after surgery the added peruse from our doctors is to make sure we actually do get in that much at least, it is more important now than before to make sure we lose weight from fat and not muscle.

The amount of Protein you need also depends on how much your current weight is. I am at 207 and should be getting 60 grms of Protein a day. My friend is 365 and they were told to have 110 grms of protein a day .

Good Luck????

I don't understand why we need more Protein now..every diet I was ever on before said that I needed 4 to 6 ounces of protein a day that is nowhere near what they require now I would think that I would need to eat the same amount of protein as I did then doesn't make sense

It's best to follow what your doctor says. You don't want to end up malnourished or anything because you didn't get in what you need. I know that gastric bypass patients can have problems absorbing all the necessary nutrients. If it's a matter if it being difficult to get it in maybe you need to consider other foods or Protein drinks to get it all.

The very best thing to do is have your doctor explain it to you until he/she is blue in the face if they have to. You want to fully understand what's going on with this new you. We can tell you a billion different things in this thread but unless your doctor is on this thread, it may or may not apply to you specifically.

Good luck!!

It's my understanding that if you don't get enough Protein you can have some nutrition problems. One of the side effects is extreme Hair loss. Just ask your surgeon the why's...I'm sure he could break it down for you. Besides protein is a good source of energy for your body. It's way better than carbs.

Congratulations!!! 40 pounds is great! I'm less than a week post operative and am having trouble getting all the Protein I should be getting. I'm hoping it's just the swelling.

Keep up the good work.

it's hard in the beginning to get in all the Protein. There is another thread discussing GENEPRO Protein powder. I just bought some on Amazon n love it. A small amount packs 30 grams of unflavored protein. It can be added to drinks, purées , etc

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
