attn people who are going and/or have been to mexico for surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi, I would like to thank you for reading this. My husband and I are going to Tijuana Nov 23rd for my surgery. How do you make calls from Mexico to USA? Im afraid to use our cell phones, I have no idea of what the rates would be. We have unlimited minutes, but I just don't know what they would charge from out of the country. Anyone have ideas, or thoughts to share on how you handled this or plan to handle this?

I used my cell phone because the hospital I was in ( Mexicali) was very close to the border and I was not roaming. Ask your doctor's office, I am sure they know the cheapest way for you to call home.

They had a phone for us to use while in the hospital/clinic. Surgery was with Dr. Quinones

If you call your cell phone company they can switch you over to an international plan to use while you are gone and then you call back when you get home and switch back to your regular plan.

We do this all the time when traveling outside the country. Normally we do just one of our phones. The cost is minimal and worth it to be able to use your phone as much as you want/need.

There was wifi at OCC and the Marriott, so I could iMessage, FaceTime, Skype and email for free. I turned my phone to airplane mode to make sure no text messages or calls came though because I would have been charged international data/phone rates.

You can always check with your provider to see if you can add an international data/calling plan for just the one month.

I switch my phone to international with the carrier and use wifi a lot. Much easier than land line phones from a hospital bed.

There is an app called Magic Jack. It's for free calling anywhere in the world. The person u are calling has to have the app too. It gives u a number when u sign up. Put your phone on airplane mode but turn in the wifi. I used it every day and it worked great. iMessage is free with iPhone too on wifi. The hospitals and hotel have free wifi. Haven't had any issues. There's an app called What'sApp too that's used for international texting that works great. The Mi hospital in TJ has a free landline also where u can make calls home to the U.S.

I have Verizon.... They have an international calling plan that provides 1,000 minutes in Mexico... It's $15.00 for the month..... To use Internet just make sure you are using wi-if..... I have been to Tijuana 2 times in the past 9 months... Works out great!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
