Soon to be banded in Richmond

Recommended Posts

I'm new (as of today) and will be having surgery in Oct/Nov. *fingers crossed* I have to do the 6 month nutrition and exercise. By reading the posts, it seems Dr. Schoder's office is really jumping. Wonder how many of us will run into each other. I have one question for the group....who do you see for the Nutrition part? I see Whitney @ St. Mary's. Thanks in advance.

welcome babs!! I was fortunate that I did not have to go through the 6 month nutrition requirment. But I know that Dr. Schroders' office staff are good and I am sure the person you are seeing is good. Maybe others would know more.

I am coming up on my one year anniversary! I can't beleive it. I am about 2/3 to goal, which I heard this week is more than expected. the expectation is 50%. I want more and was hoping to be at my goal, but the band is like other diets in some ways, you can eat bad things that don't benefit your weihgt loss. you ahve to be careful. My goal will be to reach the goal weight by the end of the summer! I need to beef up my exercise!

Hello everyone! I'm on day 3 of the pre-op diet...the first day wasn't so bad, yesterday was awful, today has been fine. I'm not a huge fan of the shakes, but can get them down. It's crazy to think this time in two weeks I'll be banded (and school will be over :wink2:). I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for all of the support on here. This is such a great place to be!!

iteach Hang in there!! It will get better. I was just telling someone how I disliked those shakes! Look for some good recipes. there is a thread on here. I usually will get a slimfast Protein brand, I like them. Some taste like chalk!

well TFIF...

Hi Richmond Banders. I know this thread was started quite awhile ago, but I enjoyed reading about everyone's progress. It's so helpful to read these longer threads to get an idea of what to expect from the beginning of the journey.

I went to Commonwealth Surgeons' seminar last week, and I'm going to Richmond Physicians' seminar next week. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do. I haven't decided for sure whether to have the surgery, but I think I'm about 75% committed to it at this point. I'm also undecided as to which group to go to for the surgery. I hope next week's seminar helps me decide.

I haven't posted in a while. In January, I relocated to Birmingham to attend graduate school. I still travel to Richmond for my fills!

I have attached 2 pics. One is pre-surgery. It was taken last May (I was banded in October.) The 2nd pic was taken a few weeks ago. I'm now in a Medium/Large shirt ... from a XXL (18/20). It feel greats not to be confined to Lane Bryant & Ashley Stewart :-) ... I'm down from a size 16 pants to about a 10 (some 8s.) :-D

I LOVE MY BAND!!! I hope you love yours too.

Lisa

I'm excited about attending the seminar tomorrow night with Dr. Brengman's group. Did you feel like you were well taken care of by Dr. Brengman and his office staff? I'd appreicate any information about him and his associates. Thanks.

Absolutely! Dr. Brengman & staff are incredible. Keep in mind, I DRIVE 11 hours for my fills. I won't let anyone else fill my band. You're in excellent hands. Also, thanks for the wonderful comments re: my pics :-D

Thanks, LeLee. I'm so glad to know you had such a positive experience with his group. I'm really looking forward to going to their seminar tomorrow night. I would have to agree that driving 11 hours for your band fills is high praise.

LeLee, just wanted to give you a quick update. I went to the seminar given by Dr. Brengman this evening, and I couldn't have been more impressed. I'm going to make an appointment with his office tomorrow for the evaluation. I'm very excited to get the process rolling!

Lisa you look GREAT!! Good luck in Grad school.

kiz good luck with your decision. I went to Commonwealth Surgeons and have friends I met through the band that went to Richmond, they both have their personality differences, however both are great groups to chose from.

Is it HOT enough for all you Virginians!! Hopefully the steamy weather will change tonight!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
