One week to go before surgery

Recommended Posts

Well, months of planning and hard work are about to pay off. I am scheduled for my gastric bypass on 10/27 at 7 am. I'm proud to say God helped me get from 303 to 238 as of this morning. I'm 5'6" so that puts my BMI at 38 .4, still obese, but a lot better than 48.9, where I started.

I'd almost be tempted to continue losing without the surgery except I have lost more than 100 pounds twice before, even became a certified personal trainer at one point, and my body always creeps up to its set point if I'm not super diligent, or have a health issue, or have a life crisis. The surgery will help me be more diligent for long enough for the eating habits and lifestyle changes to become habitual. At least, that's what I'm hoping.

The first week of the pre-op diet (fewer than 30 g. carbs; more than 70 g protein) went well. I have six more days of this and one day of the clear liquid diet. I'm feeling a little OCD at the moment because I reading and listening to everything I can get my hands, from medical journal information to people's personal experiences (probably more helpful than the medical journals, to be honest). I'm a little nervous, but mostly in the "can we please get this over with" mindset. I feel I'm as prepared as I can be at this point.

My pre-op appointment with the hospital is this afternoon. (I've already met with the surgeon.)

The surgery as a milestone, a place to mark a significant point in my life change journey. I know it won't fix underlying issues, so I've been working on those as hard as I can. The only one I feel I have not mastered is eating when I'm tired.

Thank you to all those who were brave enough to share their stories, pre- and post-op. They have been tremendously helpful.

Thanks for sharing your story. Like you I've dieted so many times and never really finished the job or maintained. The surgery puts a new perspective on things.

I'm 3 weeks away from my surgery, so I'll be pulling for you big time. Good luck....you'll do great!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
