Hey does anyone know how long you stay in the hospital. Would I be able to go home same day if my surgery is in the morning?

Generally it's a minimum of one night because they'll need to do a swallow study to check for leaks.

My hospital is 2 nights

Yeah my stay is 2 nights also...

Gosh I would love to go home same day! That would be totally awesome but I know I have to stay at least overnight because he does a leak test 24 hours post surgery.

Is everyone excited?

My pre-op packet said that it is planned overnight stay, but that it is an approx timeframe. Getting super excited!!

I was just overnight

I had my surgery at 7:15 in the morning. I couldn't go home until the next day (even though I did everything possible to go home the same day =) )

I only have to stay one night.

My Doctor said 2 night minimum.

I was in the hospital 2.5 days. I thought that seemed long before I actually had the surgery. Now I feel I would not have been comfortable leaving until the third day, so the time was perfect.

I found that my recovery time escalated very quickly starting the third day. Granted, this is a major surgery. But by the fourth day after surgery, I was clothes shopping. Laparoscopic surgery is simply amazing!

I did take it easy for overall and followed surgeon's instructions about lifting, etc. However, I was truly impressed by how well the recovery was. I know everyone does not have the same experience, but I hope the same for everyone!

At my post op class I was told one night in hospital barring no complications!!
