It's 4am in the morning and once again I've woken up, tears running down my face why, because I'm fat and hate myself..... I just can't go on! I've, as I'm sure all of you guys have, been on every diet possible. Lost 20-30 llbs felt great then back on again. I exercise most days, snow ski, Water ski and love jogging, i'm around the 200llb mark. My big problem is food! I go for a few weeks were I eat great, little often then hit the big time pig out stage. I was diagnosed a non purging balimic a few years ago, and have big issues with food. I'm not there anymore but still go through periods of eating lots because I feel sad, fat and depressed! Is the band right for me will it make me feel full and satisfied with the amount of food I eat. I do stop eating when I feel satisfied but it seems to take a full macdonalds restaurant to do it!!!!! I've booked my first appointment tomorrow to go see about the band but if it's not right for me then what's the point. Also how long will I need of work after and when can I get back to exercising? Also I've been reading about ports and slippagaes?????? what are these? I really am quite active will this make me more prone to this stuff?

Thanks for being a sounding board.

Hi Jet :) I'll leave most of your questions to others and/or the doc at your consultation tomorrow. These are all questions we've all had and you're perfectly normal in wondering about these things. I would like to encourage you to let the surgeon know that you've been diagnosed "non purging bullemic" at the first consultation. It probably won't be a big issue for him, since you don't purge, but it's something you'd want him to know up front, just in case he would require a psych work up or follow up psych care. It would be a bummer for you to get all set up for the surgery, and find out, after the doc reads your medical records that he'd want more follow up on your condition.

Best wishes! Let us know how your consultation goes.

Hi Jet,

I can't answer any questions for you I'm going in on the 18 th to have mine done, but the questions you have are ones I think most of us have had. I was down on myself for a long time but just knowing that I have a chance to do something about the extra pounds brings back so much joy in my life. I can do it and so can you! good luck and just know today is the first day of the rest of your life.

First of all.... You should be hating yourself~ In order to have the surgery you must have a Psyche evaluation. You may need to work on not hating yourself first. I've been banded for 6mos.. love it... I have horrible food cravings..the band doesn't kill the cravings, but you can only eat a small amount and then you are full... that full feeling is a huge help....before I could be hungry and then be full and keep eating.. now once I'm full I have to stop or some of the food will come back up... Once that happens, I'm not hungry anymore.. .it's weird but it works and it works differently for every one... My sister had the band in feb 2005 and has lost 102 lbs...now she's 8 wks pregnant, but she still looks great

from a size 22 to a size 8... that's awesome... good luck to you and please love yourself. You only have one you in this lifetime.. Take advantage of every day... Who cares if you are overweight-- we all are-love you for you and decide on your weightloss plan and move on.. try not to dwell.. if God wanted us all to the same he would given us all the same metabolism.. that's my theory and sticking to it.

Thank you so much for your words! so weird that only certain people understand, people who live it. I went today to see about banding and I can believe how relaxed and calm I felt. They were lovely to me, any quesions I asked, answered. I'm going to take my Husband back with me to meet the Doctor, he is so against it!

JetlagJane,

Your story breaks my heart...to think of you up at 4:00 a.m. crying because you hate yourself....don't hate yourself....maybe the band is for you, like "Musicalmomma" said, talk to your doctor and tell him everything you have told us......you will be just fine...I wish you all the best....good luck...and please let us know how you are doing...

Hi there! I'm glad to see that the meeting helped, sounds like you got your questions answered. Absolutely, take your husband to meet the Dr - he's probably against it because he's worried about you and does not understand the pros/cons of the Lapband.

I'm sure you realize, the depression will be with you whether you have the band or not. I'm worried for you because if you decide on the band - it will not solve your food issues.

I was banded in Oct 2005 and remember Thanksgiving the next month was especially difficult... there was hardly anything there I COULD eat, and to watch people eat 2-3 heaping plates of food is enough to make me feel ill.

Once you get the band, most fast food places will be a thing of the past. Think of the money you'll save :)

If I could offer one suggestion, don't "rush" into it. Give yourself time to consider what you'll be in for.... and, try to find a local support group. Go to Yahoo and search under Groups... look for a Lap Band support group in your area that meets on occasion. It really helps.

All the best,

Karla

Oh my gosh you sound so much like me! Listen to your heart only you can

make the decision to undergo such a drastic measure. I had my surgery in

December. I have lost weight but the eating to deal with stress, depression, anger etc...... That for me has not disappeared.

I hope you find the answer to a more healthy you whether you choose to undergo lap band surgery or not.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
