Vomiting after surgery?

Recommended Posts

May sound weird but one of the main things that makes me nervous about this surgery is if i will have lots of vomiting after surgery? I seen a couple people write that they vomit on a daily basis after surgery. Is this normal? One of the nurses at my weight loss center said they do not want you vomiting because enflames the stomach. I hate nothing more then vomiting so do not want this to be a normal part of my day. Would appreciate anyones input. Thanks!

I did about 3 times which is normal for my coming out of anesthesia. The doctor can give you medicine to minimize or eliminate it. I haven't had one bout since surgery day.

i have seen only SOME people say that, and only for a short while. don't fixate on that point, please. i hate vomiting also, but i know that if i do experience it, it will only be a temporary part of my adjustment.

I had a couple of episodes of vomiting once I got up to my room after surgery and one early on the following day. Nothing intolerable at the time, and no vomiting since. Try not to worry about it too much.

I did only once when they gave me hydrocodone by mouth (in spite of the allergy Bracelet I was wearing to prevent that). I can't take that stuff by mouth on a good day and 4 hours post op was not a good day. Never tried any narcotics for pain after that. Didn't need them. They controlled my nausea with something in my IV and a patch behind my ear that I wore for about a week post-op. No issues.

I also got the patch behind my ear along with Zofran and had no vomiting. I get nausea very easily and vomited multiple times a day throughout my pregnancy. Hence, I was worried about the nausea after surgery. Although the patch and nausea medicine helped, I was terribly dizzy when they tried to stand me up two hours after surgery. The nausea subsided enough 5 hours after surgery that I was able to walk down the hall with assistance.

My advice would be to let the nurses know about your fear of vomiting so you can get a nausea med or patch. Also, ask for a puke pail right after surgery just in case. I did not ask for an anxiety med before surgery, so I never got anything to help me relax. I guess they thought I was cool as a cucumber and didn't bother. It would have been helpful, however. My point is, just make sure your wants and needs are known. And it never hurts to tell more than one person.

I had some vomiting and stomach spasms the day after surgery and was pretty miserable, but I also had bad headache. By the next day I felt much better. They did keep me an extra day, just to make sure I could eat keep down the liquid diet. I have had one other bout of vomiting last week, but I think that was in reaction to some tough meat. Other than that there have been no issues.

After surgery in recovery I was nausea and vomited a few times but they say it's normal. They have me medication for it. After that I was fine. Some people do & some don't. Don't focus on vomiting, stay focused on what you have to do before the surgery. Best wishes to you.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
