I am 1 day past-op and I was wondering if anyone retained fluids? I hardly have to go to the restroom.

So glad to hear you are doing well. When you discharge and go back to the hotel, don't try to do too much. We went shopping and I was absolutely exhausted and wished I hadn't gone. In the beginning, just doing a little tires you out.

I was able to go out walking with no issues. The day I got released from the hospital we went to revolution avenue. And then the next day we went to the farmers market. It was nice to get out of the hotel and at some air.

I did! It seems like it took my bladder a long time to wake up. Others were going all the time but I was only going like twice a day. It for better about three days later.

At the 3 week mark since surgery. Have lost 29 pds. Wanted to ask if anyone is still experiencing pain where your drain tube was? I seem to catch gas in that area and it is quite painful.

The good: I'm down 50+ lbs since surgery, 80+ from my highest weight. Today was my 3 month surgiversary. I go see my PCP tomorrow to run bloodwork. I am in a tight size 14, very comfortable size 16.

The bad: I still have some pretty bad heartburn so I guess I'm going to be on PPI's for a while. Unfortunately I've noticed some increased Hair loss. It's not noticeable on my head yet, only in the shower and brushing my hair. I also have had depression that I can't shake for about a month but I don't know if there's any correlation to my surgery since I have a lot of stressors in my life right now.

Hello everyone,

Feb. 7th will be my 3 month anniversary. I have lost 50 pds. and am wearing a size 16. I've been getting alot of compliments from family and support from them as well. Buying new clothes is so much fun and a great reward! I have set some personal goals. Once I see a '1' in front of my weight I've decided I'm getting a tattoo that says, "Believe". And when I reach 100 pds. lost I'm getting my second tattoo that says, "Re-Imagine!" These are two powerful words for me because it wasn't until I believed and I re-imagined how my life could be that I was able to take steps to make it happen. Would love to hear how everyone is doing...

@ Congrats on your progress so far! I am having the same issue with Hair loss. Not enough to notice but I see a lot in the shower and when I brush it. I hope it slows down or stops soon! And I too have had a few issues of feeling depressed and not knowing if it was surgery related or life related. Our lives have been spinning like crazy and I hope it has been related to that and not the surgery.

@@Revgirl Congrats to you too! I have become a frequent shopper at our local Goodwill. I wear it until it gets too big, donate it back, and then buy something else. I'm lucky because we have a nice, big one near me. I love your ideas for meeting your goals!

As for me, I met my first goal....to get off of some meds and get some health issues in order. I am no longer type II, so I got to quit that medicine. My cholesterol dropped, so that medicine is gone. Still having heartburn issues and my gastro doc said I probably will for up to a year and maybe for life. I can live with that! My blood pressure is still a little too high to come off of that medicine but it has been lowered.

My second goal was to reach Onederland....I got there! Now I kind of feel like I am on the downward slope now. It is much slower coming off now but it is moving!

I still have a way to go but I can tell a difference already. I am now in a size 14 comfortably, size 12 some but tight. I put a couple of pictures on my profile at my two month mark. There is no doubt in my mind that I made the right decision and can definitely say this is a whole new life! Thanks for taking the time to post. I have missed hearing from everyone. I just wanted to make sure things were okay! :)

I had my 3 month checkup with PCP today. He was very happy with my progress and gave me a prescription for Omeprazol. He is ordering new bloodwork.

I printed charts from MFP showing my last 3 months of calories, carbs and Protein. I told him that I'd been very tired, sore, irritable and depressed. He looked over everything and said I needed to increase my carbs. Apparently when you stay in ketosis for long stretches it depletes your glycogen stores and eventually your body starts to cannibalize itself without a ready source of energy (carbs). That explains why I'm sore for 3-4 days anytime I exercise. So I'm going to increase carbs and see how it goes!

Hi girls!!

So glad that I checked a random folder in my e-mail, so I saw the new posts. So glad to hear that everyone is doing very, very well. I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!!!!! And I think all of us deserve extra credit for losing a lot of weight over the holidays and in the dead of winter. High five for that. ;)

@@wantingabetterlife CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I did a happy dance for you when I read about the goals you've met. So, so proud and happy of you, friend. I'm at 200 and STUCK. It is totally one of my sticking points, so I kind of *knew* it was going to be tricky, but I'm trying not to get too impatient and frustrated. I'll be honest though, it sure would be nice to see that "199" on the scale. Heck, 197 would be even better. I weigh in on Fridays, so maybe this will be my week. *crossing all my fingers and toes*

@ Thank you for mentioning the depression. I think it's one of the things that nobody really talks about. I haven't felt depressed necessarily, although there are times that I've definitely wondered if I was headed in that direction, but my libido is through. the. floor. I thought that, as I lost weight, it would pick up, but it seems to be doing the opposite. I am attributing it to the same thing as the hair loss: a major shift in hormones and metabolism. I am proud of you for all your progress. ***hug***

@@Revgirl I love it. I love your words. I think words are powerful, and something that really create our reality. Fantastic. Now I'm thinking about what *my* words might be....

So. Me. I am down 50 pounds and just hangin' out at 200. Yup. Juuuuuuuust waiting. ;) And I'm so jealous of all of you that are down so many sizes!!! I'm still wearing the same clothes. They're looser, but not loose enough that I need to go shopping, you know? I signed up for 2 5K runs this week--one in April and one in July. Going to train for the Tinkerbell 10K at Disneyland in 2016. Loving exercising, but my knees are still shot from running when I was so heavy. Hoping that gets better. Just starting to lose hair, but I'm taking 5,000 mg Biotin, using Nioxin, and taking another supplement called "Super Silica" that I think is helping a bunch. Libido leaves much to be desired (SNORT. "desired"...) But, really? I'm great! My energy is up! I love feeling like I'm just chubby and not completely huge. I love that my Sleeve can tolerate all kinds of foods, and that I can be totally satisfied with just a little bit of something. I would do it again in a second.

Loves!

Becca

@@Becca R. Oh Becca! So glad to hear from you too! Sounds like you have been doing great as well. I hovered at 200 in a stall and almost cried when the scale wouldn't move. It finally did and I felt so much better! You will reach Onederland and it is a wonderful place (even though I just got here)!

We can all hope and pray that the hair loss stops soon. It makes me so sad when I see a bunch in the drain after I shower. My PCP said that as fat is released, hormones are too. She said to expect the ups and downs, so I have to try not to be irritable or moody. I have had a couple of stalls that lasted too many days and I was really down in the dumps. But I have learned to accept them and know they will come. As far as libido, all the people post that theirs have gone way up. I thought I was doing something wrong because mine was much higher before! Now that I have this lighter me, I really haven't had much interest. Of course, my husband will tell you that he has been chasing the new lighter me relentlessly! Hopefully that hormone will kick in soon enough :)

I am so proud of you all! Keep up the good work and for Pete's sake.....keep in touch every once in a while!

@ -- How many carbs does your PCP want you at?

Becca!!! So happy to hear from you, buddy. I was staying at 30 g or less a day and he wants to me to try and double that. He said 30-35% of my calories should be from carbs and I had mine set at only 15% because of my PCOS.

(Edit to add: He also stressed the importance of getting carbs from HEALTHY sources only like starchy vegetables, fruit, Beans, etc. NOT French fries, Pasta, bread, etc.)

On a side note, my libido has gone waaaaaay down. I simply have to interest. Strange because I've never had this issue before. Oh yeah. And now I have periods. I didn't miss those...not one bit. So I know my hormones are regulating. My body is just a bit whacky right now!

I'm so glad to know that I'm not the only one!!! It makes me feel so much better. I hear other sleevers who sound like teenagers with raging hormones and I'm all "I'll just be over here, shivering and trying to get warm and wishing for an electric blanket." ;) I'm also having periods since my sleeve, and I hadn't had them since I got my Mirena. WEIRD.

@ -- Let me know how it goes, will you??? I get mostly complex carbohydrates (garbanzo Beans, black Beans, fruits and veggies). Sometimes I feel like I'm not supposed to have any carbs at all, but that's simply not feasible.

What are you guys all eating these days? My current favorites are a fried egg on one slice of Canadian bacon for Breakfast, a few ounces of garbanzo beans with a small drizzle of olive oil and lemon juice for lunch, and the Progresso light Soups for dinner. YUMMMMM. I would love to hear what you guys are doing and get inspired. (My food is so boring. lol.)

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
