END OF OCTOBER/FIRST OF NOVEMBER SURGERIES/BUDDIES NEEDED

Recommended Posts

My date is Oct 29, in Long Island, NY. I've been counting down the days. Begin my 2 week pre op liquid diet tomorrow, wish I didn't have to but no choice.

My pre op is 14 days on Bariatrix, not the best tasting but I guess it'll get the job done.

My surgery is 30 October, Yeah!

Question: Is it really necessary to do a two week liquid diet before surgery, knowing that you will rapidly lose weight after?

I already have lost 10lbs, 250 down to 240, I also workout 4 times a week, 45-60 minutes’ running/jogging/walking combination, which I know I will begin to exceed once the weight comes off.

I have heard of people, men mostly, doing a 3 day Water only diet prior to surgery? I hoping to get down to 175lbs

Surgery on the 29th for me! I start my 2 week liquid diet tomorrow, which I am loathing, but I guess it's a necessary evil. @@ArtDLG, the liquid diet is to shrink your liver so they can more easily move it out of the way during surgery. While not all doctors do 2 weeks, some liquid diet beforehand seems pretty much standard.

Thank you @@ArtDLG but Bariatrix is basically a Protein shake, they have the powders, Soup mixes and puddings along with a few other things. Its a line like unjury or Lean shake. I personally prefer the Lean Shake to the Bariatrix but by any means necessary.

The main reason for the pre op diet is to shrink the liver since it is assumed most of us being obese have a fatty liver. While it may kill me to do this liquid diet for 2 weeks, I am more afraid of the surgeon going in and finding out when I wake up that he closed up because my liver was too big and fat to do surgery so I'm using that to psych myself out into completing this phase.

Hey surgery scheduled 10/27. Had pre-op testing today. EKG, Upper GI images and blood work. So glad it's all done. Also pick up my phase 1 food and some Vitamins. This is about to happen!

ArtDLG, the reason for the liquid diet is that it makes your liver smaller and your liver sits on top of your stomach (thats what I am told) I start mine Thursday and I can have 3 Protein shakes and a BIG salad with some no fat dressing on it. Then 3 days before do a cleanse, then start a 3 day CLEAR liquid diet. Its not about losing weight its about getting your stomach as empty as possible before surgery........afterall..... they are about to remove 85% of it

Got it, I know it's different from person to person, this wasn't mentioned by my Dr. He told me I was a great candidate, which is very reassuring.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
