Anger & Aggression After Surgery!

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced an extreme increase in anger & aggression? I am mad at the world & ready to fight at any minute, have horrible road rage and am so irritable & impatient! I'm a hot mess & it is ruining my life & relationship with my fiancé & friends! No one can stand me!!! This makes me regret my surgery so much, all I wanted to do was improve my health & life... && all I've done was ruin it, although I am almost 4 months post op & have lost 73lbs & feel great about myself more but it seems like I hate everything else idk... Please help... I have made an appt with a psychiatrist for next month but in the meantime I'm just a mess!

yes, get help. The psy is a good idea. WLS is hard on your body. I can tell you in a normal day if I ate only what a WLS patient eats I would be so hungry/angry I would be a BEAR.

Any of us who qualify for WLS have most likely been using food to deal with most of our emotions - especially the negative ones - for years. Now that crutch is gone and we are left having to feel our feelings. It makes sense that you might not be equipped to handle them in a healthy way. Sounds like a therapist or psychologist will be helpful to you. Ask your fiance to be patient with you while you learn how to deal with this new lifestyle and new body, I'm sure you'll learn new coping techniques soon!

I am short-tempered and I cry a LOT. I was seeing a psych before and still am. I think it is just an adjustment, at least I hope so. This surgery is hard on the whole body and the mind.

I just want to commend you for getting out there and asking for help! You made an incredible decision and have had dramatic changes in a very short period of time. We expect the physical changes and anticipate positive change emotionally, but as @@AmyC65 pointed out having one of our coping mechanisms taken away can create sadness and/ or anger. I already anticipated sadness and depression and loss, but not anger. Let us know how you do, I'm praying for you @@Amour.de.lionne!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
