Gall stones

Recommended Posts

Went for an ultrasound yesterday on my gallbladder. The dr. Office called today and said the doc wants to see me tomorrow. Guess that means I will be having my gallbladder removed. Seeing the doc tomorrow at 1pm.

Very easy surgery. I was dressed and leaving by about an hour post op. Much easier than the sleeve surgery.

Having mine out tomorrow lol. I'm 1 month post op. My Dr doesn't check before for gallstones.

Mine's coming out on the 15th. Crossing my fingers for an easier recovery than the sleeve!

With the constant nausea, feeling of indigestion and throwing up...I can't wait to have this surgery.

Yup. Been there.

Had my first gallbladder attack 10 day post-WLS-op.

Had it taken out 4 weeks post-WLS-op.

Recovered easily within a week.

Had mine out yesterday. They had a very difficult time with it and I am in extreme pain. It is so much worse for me than the sleeve was. And I have a total of 10 healing incisions now. Hope yours is a much easier procedure.

I'm so sorry to hear that your surgery was rough. I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Why aren't these doctors taking the gall bladder out with the WLS anymore? Seems so counter productive to have to have it out anyway after the fact! I'm glad I had mine out several years ago!

I have gallstones, I haven't had a problem with them for over a year now ....I am expecting to have surgery in the next few months and I'm hoping my surgeon will remove my gallbladder at the time of surgery ....anyone have any experience on this for someone who already has gallbladder issues prior to surgery?

@@rdelly01, if it is known that you have gallstones already and your bariatric surgeon won't remove it with sleeve surgery, I would throw a full on tantrum about it.

It's one thing if they don't know or don't check, but the presence of gallstones equals a diseased gallbladder that is not going to improve with time, and may actually cause an emergency. Those stones have an ability to travel, and if they migrate to the CBD (common bile duct), emergency surgery has to be done.

Please advocate for yourself (not saying you haven't!) because this practice of omitting EGDs or not removing a known diseased organ while you are already being operated is just ridiculous. Good luck to you!

Thank you! I'm meeting with my surgeon on Wednesday, I will definitely discuss this with him. I just wasn't sure what the common practice was. I don't see a point in leaving in the gallbladder if it's already diseased and I have no doubt in my mind I will have a problem with it as I start losing weight. That would mean an additional surgery, more incisions and recovery time.

Definitely talk to them. I most certainly had them before surgery as I'm only 5 weeks post op. Dr says surgery for the sleeve exacerbated my gall issues.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
