Reevaluating goals?

Recommended Posts

My weight loss has been so slow al along and after 8 moths completely stopped I was always striving to meet goals of 25bmi and weight of 150lbs goal weight but instead of beating myself up I can now wear clothes from normal shops and can move easier and look better so my question is should I be happy at this weight 197 and just give up and live my life in maintaince?

Don't ever give up. Regroup & remember your original motivation. Try starting from the beginning with liquids, purees, and soft foods. Go back to your nutritionist. Find a support group. Your health is so worth the effort. Sending up prayers for your courage and strength.

It's really a matter of you're satisfaction and happiness. I'm still 30lbs above my "ideal" weight, according to the weight charts, but if I never lost another pound, I'd be satisfied and grateful. I'm still trying to reach that magic number of 199. But it's not a goal that's going to make or break my happiness if I don't get there. I don't have the same aches and pains anymore, and I'm more mobile and active than I've been in 5 years. I get a lot of satisfaction out of that.

really, only you can tell if you are going to be satisfied. i don't see why you couldn't try maintenance for a while, and then reevaluate in a month or two.

I know it may be very frustrating but don't give up. Try changing up your eating & exercising routines. I agree with Haleytrim about talking to your nutritionist.

I wish you all the best on your journey.

Don't give up! I agree with @haleytrim. Visit your nutritionist, go to a support group. Put as your next goal to reach 175 pounds. This is a long term journey. I'm loosing slow too but as long I'm loosing I'm ok with it.

Throwing in my two cents, I don't know that giving up and reevaluating goals are the same thing. Health is the priority not a number on the scale. If you are healthy, think about reevaluating!

Stalls are normal. They can last a month or more and seem to go on forever when you are in one. Mix up your diet and your exercise plan. You can get your weight loss going again, I have no doubt. You just need to be patient and stick to plan. YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU WANT!! Be kind to yourself. You've done great so far!

That's a really personal and difficult question to answer, but ultimately, you have to decide. I am in the same boat, I can't get below 161. Actually, I'm not sure it's up for me to decide, and I do think there is a point for some of us that we just can't lose any more, for whatever reason. I doubt that you are there yet, though :)

When I started this, I just wanted to look normal, and I was ok with never being skinny. Then as the weight came off, and I had a lot of success, I wanted to hit a normal BMI. I see so many people do it, and it seemed that I could, too. But, it's proving pretty elusive, for me. So, I now struggle with the same question - but mine is "am I re-evaluating, or am I taking the easy way?" I wear a size 8/10, sm/med, and everyone I know says I look great. I am really happy with my size, and I don't think I'd look any better with another 20 pounds off - in fact, I think I might not look as good. I'm perfectly healthy, and all the stuff (Blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol were all increasing) has reversed. So honestly, those last few pounds would be lost just to say I have a normal BMI. This is still a work in progress for me, so only time will tell.

So, you are only 8 months out. Weight loss slowed for me around then, too, but I continued to lose for another 8 months after that. My guess is that you can keep losing, and even if you only lose a pound a week, in another 6 months, that's going to be another 26 pounds off. My advice is to really consider your goals, and work to achieve them. Maybe shift your thinking a little - rather than "give up and live in maintenance", maybe accept that it's slow going, but that you don't really have a deadline. That really helped me during times of slow loss and stalls.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
