August post op sleevers: Check in

Recommended Posts

@@Introvert, @@b4real5, Thanks for the encouragement! I think a lot of my anxiety is coming from being overweight for SO long that I am seriously doubting that a surgery is going to change that. My 43 birthday is in November and I don't still want to be considered Morbidly Obese by then (I'm 20 pounds shy of just being considered "obese").

I know everyone's body is different and everybody loses weight at different rates but I can't help but look at the ones that are my height and that started at my weight (or within 5 pounds of my high weight) and all seem to be doing SO much better than I am and it frustrates me (I saw one that lost 60 pounds in her first 6 weeks!).

The only place where you can tell I have lost any weight is in my face and arms! I am still wearing the same size as I was wearing when I went into the hospital and they are fitting just like they did then (except a few tops that have gotten loser around the "girls") Is a one size down too much to ask for at this time in my journey?

I really came to this site looking for friendly "faces" because my local support group tends to spend more time talking about what they think I am doing wrong than "supporting" me so I am very glad that you two reached out to me and you are so kind and encouraging.

Hoping you are right and I break my stall soon!

the slime I think is wen you over eat and u feel like ur about to bust open and u throw up (vomit-tmi) it's more of a slippery or slimy liquid that comes off your stomach. Well for me that's wat I have experienced anyway. Any losers out there thinks it something else pl Enlightened me too.

Later losers, enjoy losing.

Ruskatie you wrote "I know everyone's body is different and everybody loses weight at different rates but I can't help but look at the ones that are my height and that started at my weight (or within 5 pounds of my high weight) and all seem to be doing SO much better than I am and it frustrates me (I saw one that lost 60 pounds in her first 6 weeks!)."

You have lost 41 pounds!!!!! In what? 5-6 weeks! Have you EVER been able to do that? Don't judge yourself by what others have done!!! You are a unique person ( unless you have an identical twin lurking somewhere) LOL! Those first 10-30 pounds after surgery are mostly excess Water and your body burning its glucose reserves. READ READ READ this forum is full of information, not just the "I lost 60 pounds" fluff. But real knowledge about how the weight loss/fat burning process works. Did your body store all that fat in 6 weeks? NO, it took years! And it may take YEARS to get rid of it all.

Check out this lady's blog..... http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/p/my-story.html

She should be an inspiration to all of us! from a size 28 to a 4!!!! If I may quote her.... "This is a lifelong war versus obesity and having surgery was just one battle... everyday I wake up and fight. “Just cause you got the monkey off your back doesn't mean the circus has left town.” The FIGHT is FOREVER. "

Slimes are when you are overfull and instead of like real vomit it is frothy white stuff that comes up instead of food. I had it the first time last Friday and will NEVER do that again. I drank too soon after I ate and ate too fast so was very uncomfortable and nauseous but when it came up it was white.

yes it is. If I weren't me my stomach would be disgusted. I try hard to listen to my body wen I feel that full feeling. Did have the slime quite a few times. Unpleasant is all I can say. With the regular stomach wen u retch the food would come up not with our little sleeve. Go easy wen eating.

Hey fellow August sleevers. Just want to report I am doing well. Lost 29 lbs from beginning of pre op diet, down 2 pant and top sizes. Been walking almost a mile every day (I need knee replacements). And did 10 minutes of seated aerobic exercises. I feel good. Learning how much and how slow to eat. Bowels are better. As someone else said "this is not a race but a journey". I'm glad I'm on it. Hope everyone is happy with theirs. Ps I'm 65 yo.

Hey Hey Hey. Motherofthree checking in. I think I am 5 weeks post op now. Pushing the Water and the Protein. I cannot even eat one egg in a sitting. But I am good with that. It seems like i am always eating. I try to eat every two hours. I do get hunger pains when it is time to eat, like now lol. I went back to having my oatmeal for Breakfast and now its for lunch too. I feel awesome and blessed indeed.

Glad to see that everyone is doing better this time out. It was not easy and for some it still is not. Let's keep focused and keep it moving. It will get better and you will come to love your new tummy. I know I do.

Later losers!

Yuk I had frothing a few times. I actually had to purge to get it to stop. It's from bEing overfull or eating too fast. It's the protective covering in your stomach.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
