New to fifties group

Hi all, I joined this forum in 2011 anticipating surgery, but my employer's insurance would not approve, but then I came down with leukemia and that totally shot it out of the Water. But I am back and hope it will be happening before the end of the year, with Medicare since I had to stop working.

I am looking for anyone who has been sleeved or going to be for support and encouragement.

I hope some will pick this group to communicate with others.

@@bellabill I don't mind at all, I lived in Burlington. Spent my entire career working for tech start-ups so Burlington was the perfect location! How about you? I moved there right after college with a few other friends and was there for 22 years. I really miss it but I get back a few times a year and always once in the summer to head down the cape for my annual cape vacation (Harwichport). All my closest friends still live there or other parts of New England (West Hartford, Darien, CT, Ogunquit, ME).

@JALUVIC Welcome!

@@JALUVIC welcome! And looking forward to getting to know you!

We have a good mix in this forum some of us have just been sleeved(me) 3 weeks out & some are still waiting to be sleeved. We also have others who have been sleeved for a while. So feel free to ask questions.

Good luck

Hi everyone I am happy to have found this group ???? I will be 50 on Thanksgiving Day this year, going on a quick vacation that week, December 1 start pre diet and December 8th is my sleeve date ???? I can't wait next year I will be 50 and fabulous LOL

Wow this group is really growing in numbers (but losing in lbs!). Welcome to all the new people....and hey, 50 is definitely the new 30....especially after weight loss surgery....at 61 I feel like I am 20-25 years younger.

At three years post op I can barely remember pre-op diets (or any diets), I don't count calories, and I don't worry about my weight, but I do pay attention....have been trying to drop 5-10 lbs all year and I can't seem to do it....I move ALOT and go to the gym, but I have contstant company so there is always more carbs around than there should be. But life is great (and it wouldn't be this great) without my sleeve.....so pretty soon all of you who just had surgery or are about to have surgery will be on to your new 'normal' life too!

@@funsize welcome! & happy early birthday! You are giving yourself the best present ever, The gift of a long & healthy life. And of course look more fabulous while living it.

Enjoy your vacation.

How do I join this group. I'm 55 next week. I'm scheduled for preop appointment on November 19 th to get my sleeve surgery date. I'm super excited. But feel filling a group in my age group would be most beneficial.

Hi Sorry this took a long time to respond....that is awesome you lived in Burlington! I miss that mall since I am not near there anymore. I was across the street at Barnes Noble meeting daughter and I can see Burlington Mall has advanced so much. wow! I went to school in Boston and never left MA. I lived in Medford, Somerville and Malden before moved out to Holden. I was ready to get out of the city to raise my kids. I love vsiting Boston but I don't miss living there :) You are right New England is special, with the ocean, mountains and a great city. I grew up in CT. I thought I would move out of the state when my kids graduated HS. Well, that has not happened. I am not even sure what the future holds. I do know one thing, we are about to start our fabulous fifties! To a healthier life and I know I am going to burst into energy! I am really excited to move forward to a newer 2nd half of my and your life. :P It is nice to "meet"you! Lisa

@@Grandma2tweeties, you just joined. All you have to do is click follow this thread at the top and anytime anyone post something you'll get a notification. Welcome to our group and happy early birthday.!

If I may recommend a good read to all of the newbies or anyone who recently joined, please read the blog from Queen of Crop (She posted on the page, 32, sorry I'm not Techy's enough to add her link) it is enlightning, voyeuristic (in a good way) and helps you to feel secure in the decision to go through this surgery, It reads like none other.

Thanks for the vote of confidence kathy812! I do agree, my blog certainly is different than any one elses! But if it helps inspire and encourage people, then I have done my job! I actually just redesigned the site... Will write my next installment this week.....and for all of you in your 50's.....I really think it is the new 30's.....there is so much life left in all of us!!!! Rock on...

Yay to the 50's! (I feel a bit funny saying that since I am 61!)

Queen of Crop

Thanks Kathy. How do I find page 32??? Sorry don't know my way around yet.

@@Grandma2tweeties, actually queen of crop wrote a post right before you did, just scroll up a bit, the link to her blog is in her post, happy reading.

Queen of the crop,I read the blog and if people read it to the end theyd get so much more out of it.. Thanks for the inspiration to life itself!

Been gone a few days and it looks like we have some new 50's ladies - Yay! I lost a family member (my cousin's husband) who fought a long hard battle with multiple myeloma cancer this past Saturday. It just breaks my heart, though I know he's in a much better place now and will no longer have to suffer. The memorial service is this coming Saturday so a lot of family is flying in from all over and things are kinda crazy. Just wanted yall to know that I try and catch up on everyone's progress every day or so. Welcome to the Newbies and Congrats to everyone else on their progress! Next week I will frequent Mayo Hospital, here in Jacksonville, Florida, three days. Tuesday I meet with the Bariatric coordinator and it looks like I'm taking home some type of pulmonary overnight oximetry machine. Anyone care to elaborate on this? I think it will test my oxygen levels as I sleep to see if they need to do a sleep apnea study on me. Wednesday I go for labs and my 2nd nutrition appointment (hope she's happy to see that I've lost weight). I also have and ECG and then I see my Endocrinologist (hoping the dieting has lowered my A1C). Full day: 9:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. - Whew! Then Friday it's time for my endoscopy and I figured since I've never had one, why not go ahead and have a colonoscopy! Now don't yall be jealous - LOL! Any insight on any of these procedures is more than welcome.
