I had surgery on Aug 4th no issues at all at my week follow up I had lost 13 lbs. Doctor told me to experiment with foods and don't be afraid of anything except steak and chicken on the grill. My biggest issue right now is drinking when I'm eating. What's a good time frame of drinking before and after meals? I haven't lost any weight since my we check up.

I don't snack, drink low cal beverage. I love to juice and add blended ice a snake slushies for dessert. Take cool whip no sugar add Peanut Butter and small chocolate at the bottom and freeze overnight it's like eating fluffy icecream without hardly any calories.

I have many banded recipes low dat low cal and works for the band.

Every doctor has their own thoughts on this subject. What does your doctor require? You'll probably get a half dozen different answers to this question but you should follow your own doctor's protocol for eating and drinking at least until you're a veteran and know how your body works with your band.

Having said this, my doctor asks us not to drink 30 before, no fluids while eating and no drinking for 30 minutes after. But, he also understands that every patient is different and is open to drinking while eating. I usually drink before eating. I seldom drink while eating and if I do I try to allow the last bite to clear my stoma/band(about 1 minute) before taking a sip. I sometimes drink shortly after a meal too. I'd say I follow the Dr's rule 80% of the time.

Eating chicken, steak, burgers, dry fish and leftovers can be difficult for our bands to accept. This is the times I usually break the rule so I don't get meat stuck in my stoma or esophagus.

My doc said that it's OK to drink a LITTLE right before my meal, but not during or right after. So, I drink just enough to make sure that my throat doesn't feel dry (usually only a sip or two) before I eat. It helps a lot, and I also don't feel like I'm dehydrated by the time I can drink again about 45 mins after my meal.

Like 2muchfun said, every doctor is different. So please follow your doctors requirements. I was told by my doctor to not drink during eating and try to go 30 minutes after eating without drinking. I am not going to lie it was hard to get use to. I use to drink a whole drink while eating before surgery. I am sure you will do great.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
