Have you tried slushies made at home? crushed ice with your fave flavouring? could even just be a strawberry, texturally would that be easier? Im not sleeved yet just part of my post op plan if i can't tolerate plain Water.

I get a 64 oz pitcher and slice up a cucumber, boil about 2 cups Water in the microwave and dump in over the cucumbers. I let it sit about 10 minutes then add ice and Water. It's so refreshing and makes the water go down easily. I dissevered it at the spa and now I can't live without it! You could do it with fruit or anything really. Did watermelon last week.

The Constipation was an issue with me for about 6 months. It because you are eating so much Protein and not enough Fiber. It's pretty common and it should resolve its self when you are on more regular foods. Until then Miralax was my best friend!

Good luck!

 YAY! I've found the secret to drinking water! This is the first time I've drank my Water without it coming through Power ade or Gatorade or tea!!! I started out doing it with 1/3 gatorade and 2/3 Water, it did not make me sick at all. But today I tried a Detox water and it's awesome! Here is the recipe if any of you would like to try it!

2 lemons

1/2 cucumber

10 mint leaves

3 quarts of water

let sit over night

ENJOY!

I hope this helps some of you that have had the side effect of not being able to tolerate plain water, like me! It was discouraging to me, something i didn't realize till a year later WAS a side effect! I thought it was just me.....and I always LOVED water!

Good luck friends!

I am glad I am not the only one with the "Water is hard to drink" problem!

I am 4 months post op. Pre-op and for teh previous 30+ years I drank Water in large amounts EVERYDAY.

Post -op i found water HARD and at times painful to drink. My addiction to water finally won out when I noticed that the temperature of the water was the problem...Really cold water was HARDER to drink than room temp water. So I only drank room temp water until my healing was more complete. Now cold water is easier but still not as easy as room temp.

I asked my Bar doc about the cold/room temp issue and he said I may be constricting at the top of my stomach due to the cold temp of the water...He admitted that was an educated guess and not based on any facts he knew about, but everyones body reacts differently to everything - so it may be plausible.

I say stick with sugar free sports drinks or another healthy alternative - the hydration is the most important thing!

The surface tension of cold Water is high and it stacks up in the sleeve. When sleeve opens up a bit more months out it does get easier. I had a big problem too so that is why mixed it with other things which lowers the surface tension. Also warm wafer has lower surface tension (I.e note as water gets warmer molecules evaporate into steam and that is happening even not as high as boiling. Just needs to be room temp or warmer ham you may usually like. That breaks up the tension as does combining with tea, Gatorade, whatever you like. In beginning I thought I'd never drink water without pain ever again. Happy to report it gets better with time.

I wish I'd had this website when I had my surgery May 2013!! It would've saved me a lot of heartache and worry!

I have never liked Water and like it even less since surgery. I finally came up with my solution. Decaffeinated chai. I make a 24 oz cup from one teabag and add I tsp. sugar. (I was told that beverages must be 10 cal. Or less per serving.)

I only drank Water pre-surgery and now it makes me nauseous every time. I struggle to get my liquids every day. I now drink about 50 ounces a day of hot chamomile tea & 20 ounces of water if I can stomach it.

My doctor prescribed me cream to put on my wrists to help with nausea.

I am very hopeful now having seen a lot of you say this passes :-)

I haven't read all of the responses so I apologize if I advise something already posted.

Water was too dense for me to drink for quite awhile. I would mix 1:1 apple juice to Water. It was just enough to cut the denseness of the water while not making the apple juice too watered down. I would also heat in the microwave and it would sooth my sleeve.

For the past two weeks or so regular water has been fine. It just takes a bit of time.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
