4 months post op...could I have stretched my stomach?

Recommended Posts

Hello Guys and Gals!!!

I haven't been on here in a while :) But anyhow...My surgery date was March 24, 2014. I am approximately 4 months out. I've lost about 53 pounds already. However, I'm a bit concerned. I'm about to handle more food then I was before. Is it possible I could have stretched my stomach? Also, four months out...should I been in the right place?

How often does everyone eat and how much do they eat?

For the vast majority of us, we are gradually able to eat a little more as time progresses. How much and how fast that happens really varies, and it doesn't mean that you have done anything to stretch your stomach. Did your surgeon provide any guidance as to how much you should be eating?

My rules for the first six months (in terms of how much to eat) were to eat three meals a day, no more than three ounces per meal. I followed the rules and didn't try to eat more, but I think I could have towards the end of the six months. I know I can now, although my restriction is still good.

At 4 months, I was eating about 4 oz per meal (4 to 6 times a day) - as opposed to the way I was eating, which could be measured in tablespoons per day. As your stomach heals, the swelling will go down and it can hold more and tolerate more types of foods.

At 9 months, I could suddenly hold 8 to 12 oz per meal easily. And at a year I was able to hold up to 16 oz, depending on the density of the food.

I don't believe it's easy to stretch your new stomach. From the research I've done, you would really have to deliberately work at it constantly to stretch your new stomach. And it would be painful. It still hurts when I take one bite too many, so I'm very mindful about how much I've eaten.

So make sure you get into good eating habits now, because I found it pretty easy to slip into old habits after my 1 year mark.

im 4 months and some change out myself and i am eating about 4oz a meal right now and i do have a snack between the Breakfast lunch and dinner i may not eat a whole lot but my stomach will growl when it wants something lol.... how much are you eating? and what are you eating?... for me yogurt fills me up for about 30 mins vs a few raw carrots that would satisfy me for 1-2 hrs so look for food that takes a while for you to chew and that helped me out i was eating more then i was supposed to be. this method has helped me out alot more raw veggies and fruit less of the other stuff... also i try to add 1/2 a piece of toast to at least 1 meal a day it keeps me full longer able to go longer with out a bite of something...

I'm 4.5 months since the surgery, lost 110 lbs. and feel great. I'm worried that I stretched my stomach. I get hungry during the day and find myself snacking on vegetables, but in the back of my mind, I'm worried.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
