Stomach pain from water

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have stomach cramping from drinking Water. I had an RNY on July 30th & I drank water & other liquids just fine during my hospital stay now whenever I take a sip of almost anything I get awful stomach cramping for just a couple of seconds

Some say that drinking it really cold helps a lot. Me it didn't but others it worked like a charm. you may want to try that! :)

If cold doesn't help try drinking it warm or lukewarm. For the first few months following my surgery (5/30/13) I could only drink warm Water. You know when you leave a water bottle in your locked car in the summer and it gets really warm? THAT'S how I liked it! Lol

Hi Trisha

I live in Australia

I just had my surgery 28/07/14, two days before you.

Like you, I too have problems drinking Water. Today I had a laps in concerntrasion when I was drinking Water. Instead of taking slow sips I took 2 big gulps. That really hurt and it gave me nausea and felt sick. It lasted for 10 minutes. Thank goodness and it has not comeback.

If I'm not careful with the way I drinks liquids this problem will occur again. Drinking cold fluids does not help.

Tomorrow I have my follow up appointment at the doctors I will mention this situation.

Hope this has made you feel better that your not the only one.

Good luck.

I'm 5 months out and Water still makes me cramp sometimes. Especially if I take a big drink, or if it's the first thing I've drank for the day.

I vaguely remember that someone in my support group said if you add lemon to the water it helps? It was a long time ago...

Make sure you are sipping and not gulping. Also make sure it not very cold it will cause cramping. Review your food journal, see if you had any Proteins or veggies that are harder to digest they will also cause stomach cramps. Hope this helps.

Thanks guys for the replies! Now I'm able to drink Water but it has to be freezing cold. My surgeon stated that it could last a week or even as long as a month so hopefully this shall pass soon.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
