Opinions on protein pasta?

Recommended Posts

I believe Barilla makes it... yellow box Any of yall eat it? I do occassionally and it doesn't make me feel gross ( do not eat much of it either) but is it worth eating nutrition wise?

I don't eat Pasta at all and don't crave it. But before surgery I didn't eat much to begin with. But there are pastas out there that are made of whole grains that are pretty decent. I don't know the Protein content in them.

When I hit maintenance stage, I will most definitely look into it. I couldn't find nutritional info on the website but I bet that although its high Protein it is also packed with calories. I cant imagine it could fit into the weight loss phase diet.

Edit: Found the nutritional info and its not too bad. A little high on carbs but definitely an option for down the road

The ones I've seen in wheat tend to only be slightly different nutritionally from the regular Pasta. Compare the labels and see what you come up with.

I ate the kind you're talking about, Barilla Plus, before surgery and liked it a lot. It didn't seem as starchy and always cooked more al dente, which I preferred. Even my SO liked it better and he's super picky! I haven't had Pasta post-op because I'm trying to stay away from carbs, but it's definitely my favorite and when I start maintenance it will be the only Pasta I use.

I use Barilla plus or Dreamfields now. Both taste pretty good to me. Barilla Plus is actually made from lentils.

My surgeon runs a pretty huge and successful program and it's one where ALL macronutrients are encouraged, including healthy carb options, because they are essential to body functions. All my meals start with Protein first, but all also include a veg, and a small amount of starch or carb like rice, Pasta, or fruit.

like all things bariatric, every doctor is different and every program is different but this is my program. yes i eat Pasta.

All my doctors (surgeon, pcp, and endocrinologist) and my nut say to stay away from anything white - potato, rice, Pasta, bread, and anything made with white flour. I can't tolerate any foods made w/rice flour, either. I can eat wheat pasta but I eat it rarely - when I do, it's maybe a quarter cup. I can tolerate small amounts of brown rice, wild rice, quinoa, or sweet potato. I love spaghetti squash topped with ground chicken, vegetables, and sauce.

Don't jump off that bridge. Zucchini Pasta is all you should be considering.

i discovered an interesting thing about Pasta. you can eat it without really chewing. i wonder if that is part of why i could eat huge amounts of it pre-sleeve?

its sorta high calorie, esp if you eat a lot of it. i could eat like half a pound in one sitting.

i dont really eat it now, beyond a few bites, it makes me feel icky. but i can see how it would be a trigger food for me easily.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
