I was told by my surgeons office that there was a 90% chance of me being denied due to a 7lb. weight gain during the three month nutritionist program. I was initially told if I gained weight it would not matter by my nutritionist but now that my paperwork has been submitted I have been told differently. I followed her plan exactly as she told me and still gained 7lbs. Two of my three weigh in I was very bloated due to Water retention which she noted so hopefully they look at the whole picture. I called my insurance company in a panic because I really want this. They suggested in the mean time I go ahead and make another appoint with my nutritionist and lose as much weight as I can before that visit so that if I am denied I will be able to appeal right away with proof of weight loss. Her other suggestion was that I do one of the many pre op diets from now until then ( August 12th). She told me my best choice would be two liquid diets (protein shakes or smoothies) and one sensible meal at lunch or dinner time. Do any of you agree with this method? At this point I am willing to do whatever it takes to have this surgery. I made the appointment for August 12th so I would be doing this for the next nine days because I plan on starting Sunday. I was told if I was approved by the appointment to cancel it.

Your nut is right on...do as she says. It will make you lose for sure. Drink tons of Water and try to get rest and a little exercise. Walking is best. you will lose. and you will be proud of yourself for starting the process...

You got this!

I am on a liquid diet since Tuesday. My surgery is scheduled for August 12th. I am limited on my diet to liquids, with one Protein bar a day under 200 cal. I can have things like Tomato Soup, broth, sugar free Jello, applesauce, etc. Since it is only day 4, I haven't weighed myself. (me and the scale have a bad relationship). I was told though that I could loose 14+ lbs on it. Hope that helps some.

I weighed myself this morning and I am now 394.4. My starting weight with the nutritionist so she says was 385 ( I'm pretty sure it was 392 I have it written down myself). But since 385 is what she wrote I now have to go under that. So basically I am going to do my best to lose 20lbs if possible. I plan on doing the two liquids a day with a sensible meal a day. I will also do my best to exercise as much as I can.

I agree - follow what the NUT suggests. You should lose.

This is similar to my 2 week pre-op diet - it won't be easy, but stick to it. Follow the plan - that's the best you can do.

I found drinking Decaf green tea helped me with hunger.

Best of luck to you!

Hi I agree with the above statements do what your doctor suggest I would start the liquid diet now so that you will be smaller so that you can loose weight. Good luck.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
