when Is Ok to go outside to walk after gastric bypass surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hello.

I am here again asking questions. Today is my second day at home after my surgery and I am so bored.

The doctor told me I should walk a lot but I forgot to ask him if it is only inside my apartment or if actually I can go outside and walk a few blocks and seat a while drinking some hot tea or something .

Today is my four day after my Surgery.

They encourage you to do as much walking as you can.

I'd think youd be ok to walk outside as long as you are not lightheaded or feel like you might trip. i was walking outside by two weeks post op. Its all up to how you feel.

As long as you are stable on your feet go for it.

The more walking you do the better for you but don't over do.

Take a few blocks at a time and work up from there.

Great that you want to do this more power to you.

Take care.

I was told as long as I was steady and that I should stick to flat surfaces. Not marathons until released to do so.

Ditto - I was given a walking only restriction for 6 weeks, but no restrictions on inside vs. outside. I was only able to walk to my mailbox at first (very short distance as I have a two car long driveway) and then progressed to walking three houses up, half a block, etc. almost 3 weeks out and I'm getting around MUCH more. Slow and steady wins the race. Good luck!

I went for a walk outside the day after surgery. It was only around the block, but felt great. Took a few more that day as well, but kept them all short.

By day 3 I was able to make it most of the way around my neighborhood (avoiding the uphill part though) and by the 6th or 7th day I was able to walk pretty much wherever I wanted (though the clear liquid diet kept my energy low enough that it was pretty tiring).

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
