Just started week 4, anyone else? Whatcha eating?

Recommended Posts

Hey all I had surgery on July 1. I just began week four. Wanted to know if anyone is in my boat and if you'd like to update weekly on your progress (healing, feeling and whatcha eating?) so we can compare and maybe get some ideas?

My healing has improved so much in the past week. sleeping position, bending, everything is so much more comfortable!

Today I ate 3oz of Greek yogurt for Breakfast, rotisserie chicken chopped super small with gravy for lunch and egg drop Soup and baby food sweet potatoes with pumkin pie spice for dinner. I still do 2 Protein Shakes a day, started adding mint Extract in chocolate and I am doing better with them!

I'm going to a bachelorette party at the shore this weekend and would love to swim, has anyone done so yet?

Hope to hear from some people on week 4!

-Danielle

No no alcohol, I won't be drinking at the party either. The wedding is in Mexico at the end of August and I'll see if my nut n dr clear be for a small amount then. Right now I'm really trying to play my the rules with everything. How much Water do u get? I'm averaging between 45-50 oz daily.

Not good...I made the mistake and forgot to drink something before I left home and fainted in the bathroom at work...they rushed me to the hospital and juiced me up

I am ending week 4, just about to week 5. eating most foods other than no hard stringy meats (steak or pork) or dense carbs (pizza, soft bread, etc). feeling AWESOME. having a Quest bar every day for a snack. drinking 65-75 oz Water a day and about 65 Proteins a day. eating egg salad, string cheese, chili, sloppy joe, lobster bisque, cooked veg, very tiny amounts of carb like 1 cracker or a half piece of toast, cottage cheese, eggs all ways.

i eat about 5 times a day and time my drinks in between. i have one Muscle Milk 100 cal in the morning first thing. i am down 30 lbs and doing WAY better than i thought i would be at this point!

I'm in week 4 and down 25lbs! I tried tuna fish blended up with mayo & onion powder tonight for supper -yum! How did you handle the rotisserie chicken? I love that stuff! So far I've handled all foods well.

Had my 1 month f/u today and we discussed exercise. After viewing my incision sites I was cleared for swimming ~yay! Have you had your follow up yet?

awesome! i'm eating rotisserie chicken too and no issues, just have to cut it small and chew thoroughly so nothing gets stuck. i don't know if i pushed my diet too quickly but i was told by my nut two weeks ago to progress as i felt comfortable and i'm feeling awesome.

today for lunch i had 1 tbsp of chicken salad with slivered almonds and a piece of deli roast beef with cheese and a little mustard rolled up. i ate all the chicken salad and about 1/2 of the beef/cheese roll up.

In the past 2 weeks, i am craving ground beef like crazy and have had some basic sloppy joe (2 tbsp) in a little bowl with 1/2 of a nacho chip crumbled up on top. VERY GOOD and filling and gave me the chance to eat what my family ate. i also had some spaghetti sauce with ground beef and a few little shards of noodles broken up in it (about 2 whole noodles). also VERY GOOD. trying to eat a 'normal' diet just in very tiny amounts right now and FINALLY, after all these years, learning what a normal portion should look and feel like.

Mi75 it's good to hear your eating "normal food" I've been craving beef too! Monday is the start of week 5 for me and my 2nd follow up. I've been doing well so I think I should be cleared for most of the same foods including ground beef. Last time I weighed I was last Tuesday and I was down 20 lbs. I'm waiting for my dr for my next visit to the scale.

awesome good for you! i hit a stall and was weighing every day but i also put it away and just 'working the program' for a while till i weigh again.

oh, i also forgot grilled shrimp with lemon. YUM, had that for dinner last sunday it was absolutely awesome, and really cheap considering that a bag of raw, frozen shrimp will give me about 10 portions for $5!

The chicken goes down fine But I do put a bunch of gravy to make it really moist. I've been ok with tuna salad I make at home but I had dinner with my parents and ordered that at the diner and it did not go down easy - so weird. I don't use celery onions or anything, maybe they do? How was tuna for you?

I am jealous- my surgery was June 30th and I am only allowed smooth, runny purees for another week! I will be so happy when I can eat soft foods!

My NUT says everything must be the consistency of applesauce ans recommends tuna salad, pureed chicken etc so I have to add a lot of liquid to make it so.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
