THE LIQUID DIET COMPLAINING/SUPPORT LOUNGE

Recommended Posts

Am on my second month of "pre-op" diet and no date set yet. I still have a mandatory 4# left to lose. Had to cut out all bars and my once daily Protein food for more nasty shakes. Getting discouraged a bit. Have to make weight by Monday so he will schedule me. God give me strength.

You can do this! You are so close! You still have 5 days before your weigh-in. It may be a miserable 5 days but if you eat right (and cheat the scale a bit by avoiding fluids and stuff the day before), you can totally do that! Make sure to post back on Monday with your success and due date!

Day 11. I have been feeling much better since about Day 4. This liquid-only thing feels like my new normal now. Except for one moment yesterday in an airport when a 15 year old sat down next to me, opened a bag of McDonald's and pulled out a large order of fries. I realized..I'm not that strong. Rather than tackle her or sit there with a stream of drool coming out of the corner of my mouth...I moved across the gate area out of smell's reach. Disaster averted.

I'm laughing so much at these posts (tackling children for mcdonalds or hitting your own mother with a brick for a cheeseburger). Lol omg these made my day!! Just proves we all go thru these same emotions to get where we need to be. Thank you for posting!!

I know this is a little gross....TMI, but I need to know...Is anyone else constipated from the Pre-op liquid diet? I've been doing 2 Protein Shakes a day and a small dinner (4oz. lean meat and greens), and I cannot use the restroom. It is killing me! Do you think I could take anything to make me go?

I am the exact opposite. I am kinda worried tomorrow when I can start eating real food. Not sure I am wanting to give up liquids. I have lost weight and it feels great!

I have taken to smelling my kid's food. I try to tell myself it is just a wonderful smell...not food. It's just a weird room freshener that happens to smell like pizza or bacon or potato Soup. (I have to admit my only cheat was taking my daughter's soup spoon and dumping out the soup and liking the back of it.) My kiddos have quickly adjusted to their crazy mom sniffing their food.

I'm on day four...poor kid at work, he's the youngest here. I growled at him yesterday, and today whenever he needs to talk to me, he does it with so much hesitiation, and with a very soft voice and a lot of 'please' and 'only if you are ok with it' and 'if it's ok with you'.

I'm ready to smack him today.

I truly, really, do feel bad for the poor kid...normally, I'm a really sweet person and he's not sure how to handle this change in my demeanor.

@@Ddelrio - I've had a similar problem and plan to take generic colace if I go more than 24 hours without any action.

I think I may just have to call this thread home for the next few weeks, if that's okay. I'm at the end of my food week and facing 3 weeks of liquids. My first 2 weeks didn't go so well. I hated the taste of the powder so much I was just not 'eating', which isn't healthy and resulted in feeling even worse.

Has anyone found a reasonably priced powder that doesn't taste horrible? I've tried 3 so far and had absolutely no luck. I broke down and got a case of Premier Protein, which my surgeon isn't a fan of, but at least I can stomach it. Trouble is, I'm getting very tired of chocolate and don't like the vanilla. It'd probably help if I didn't totally hate the taste of sucralose.

I just ordered some packets of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury in hopes that it's as good as people say. The next one is Syntrax - I gotta find something!

Did your doctor provide a list of liquids that you can and cannot have? That makes a difference on the recipes.

Also, check out the recipe sub-form here.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
