How did you get ready pre-op? Did you have to lose weight before surgery? Did you have any eating issues that continued to be issues after you were banded?

I started out at my highest weight of 317lbs on April. 25, 2013 as of today I am down to 173lbs and I feel great. It has taken a lot of hard work and dedication.

Hi Candace!

I am starting at a very high weight as well. I am having surgery tomorrow and currently weigh 378. I keep reading about how unsuccessful lap band is for ppl like us who are starting at a high weight. I would love for us to become pen pals or something as we can motivate each other. It's not going to be easy but we can do it!

Hello Lizz :D! That is exactly why I started this thread. I have read a lot of stories starting in the 2's but not too many successful bandsters 3 and up. I like hearing from people who came from where I'm coming from!

We can definitely write! I sent you a friend request. I'm am excited for you. Are you nervous? What have you been doing to pre-pare up until now? I've started taking cooking classes and trying new food choices. I'm also trying to be mindful of my eating habits, like chewing and portion size.

What time is your surgery tomorrow?

Hi Candace,

Do not let a high BMI deter you. It is hard but it can be done if you want it bad enough and you're willing to put in the work and listen to your health care providers.

I started at 488lbs and this morning I was 179!!

My story is further down in this forum but here is a direct link if you care to read it...

Best of luck to you....we are all here for you!!

Hi Candace!!!!

I apologize for not responding sooner with all the pre surgery nerves I couldn't really do much! Before surgery my biggest challenge was cutting out all carbonated beverages as I love diet sodas as well as not drinking while eating. I really focused on these two things the most. I also began looking for a psychologist who specializes in food addiction for post op treatment. I feel much of my success will come from working on my food addiction and compulsiveness.

Tell me more about how you are doing though? I will tell you that although I am only two days out from surgery and I did my liquid diet for only 4 days I am down 16 pounds. What we have as an advantage is that because we have so much weight to loose we will begin to lose it quicker than perhaps those who are in the 2s according to my doctor. However, ultimately everyone loses about the same percentage of body fat which for those who are in their 2s is a larger number.

We will just have to work a little harder to reach our ultimate goals. And I know we can do it!

Hello!

At my highest weight I was 317lbs.!!

The day of my surgery I was 307 (April 11 2014)

As of today I am down to 263lbs.

I have had problems with my port flipping and just last week my doc went to give me a fill and poked and prodded me and could not find my port! So I go in the 2nd to do it under x-Ray. It's been hard not getting the fills I need but I think I'm doing good for not being filled the way I need to be! I can sure tell cause I'm selling all my bigger clothes! It's so exciting to not only see the results but have others see too! Good luck on your journey! It's a hard but great one!

I stated my journey at 326. After being banded for 16 months, I hit 199. I've moved down to the low 190's, and have been maintaining there for 2 months. I'm 5'11, so my doc is very satisfied if I stay where I am and don't lose any more weight. I'd still like to lose 20 pounds, but I'm not stressing about it. Good luck! You can do it!

I started at 302 in February 2014 and was banded in March. I'm four pounds from Onederland and I can't tell you how huge that is for me. I literally feel my heart pound when I think about seeing that number again. Actually I saw 197 on the bathroom scale last weekend but then I moved the scale to a more level spot and it went back to 204. Lol. You better believe I tried it about ten times! Anyway, I will get there in the next week or two if I stay on course. And I've never been as motivated as I am right now!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
