Just starting 3 month pre-surgery program

Recommended Posts

Went to the hospital the other day, to start non-surgical medically assisted weight loss, but now it looks like I'm going the surgical route. I think the sleeve sounds less scary than the bypass, what does everyone think. 46 years old, bmi 47.7, type 2 diabetes for 9 years, cpap for 15 years.

Welcome to the forum! Lots of good info and supporting folks here. I am two weeks into my required 3 month supervised diet in preparation for gastric sleeve. Everyone has to select their surgery, with the surgeons recommendations. They all have advantages and disadvantages. I selected the sleeve because I didn't want a permanent medical device in me and I didn't like the idea of the port/fills....but that's just me! Good luck, read all you can, listen to your surgeon and then you'll know which one is right for you.

Welcome!

I feel most comfortable with the sleeve. It doesn't have a complication rate of the lap band, nor the re-routing/malabsorption of the gastric bypass. A big plus is that the part of the stomach the produces the hunger hormone is removed. I think that will make it easier to stick with the program long term.

I don't know why but the bypass freaked me out! I didn't even want to consider it, even though the sleeve is permanent. Best of wishes to you - I honestly think that it's the best decision I ever made. I say, whatever you instinctively feel more comfortable with is probably the best choice, though I encourage you to ask around as much as possible because there's nothing to truly prepare you for the surgery, so it's best to be excited about it and feel informed going in.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
