How long after surgery were u allowed to exercise (besides walk)

Recommended Posts

Hi all- just curious since i don't see my surgeon for another 3 wks. No hurry, just mostly trying to plan.

i am walking daily but i have a small gym available at work complete with treadmills, epilipticals, rowing machine, bikes, etc. no real weights.

The PT at work will be setting up a program for me so i'm excited to get started. what were some of the general time frames before ok'ed to exercise by your surgeon? Obviously I won't start until I see him, just hoping i can start soon after.

I just went to my pre-op appointment today. We were told at 4 weeks we could resume more strenuous exercises. The reason being this is the amount of time it takes for the stomach to heal. Prior to that they don't want you to lift more than 30 lb.

I was cleared to lift more than ten pounds after ten weeks post-op. I have been hitting the gym hard ever since.

I was cleared for walking immediately (of course) and at my 4 week appointment my doc said I could go back to lifting. I was surprised because I had a large hiatal hernia repeaired, too, but I started back and everything feels great. Well, my butt and legs are still dying from a hard workout Monday, but it's that good "my muscles did something" soreness.

Six weeks for weights, one week for any kind of low impact cardio ( treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike etc).

Unlimited walking immediately after surgery (not on a treadmill).

At 6 weeks I was cleared for all exercise including light weight training.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
