I reached a plateau very fast

Recommended Posts

I had my RnY on June 17th, and in the first week I lost 3 kg. The second week I lost another three kilos and bam! I stopped completely. I'm 89 kg for 2 weeks, sometimes more but always around 89. I'm devastated because for me is not normal to stop losing when my basal metabolic rate is around 1500 kcal and I eat normally around 600 a day. I don't move much because my ankles hurt still from the weight ,but by basic math I should still keep losing. Had anyone of you experienced something like that? at only 4 weeks from the surgery? I feel like a failure. Also the craving for food doesn't end. Good that I have the minimizer ring because if not my poor pouch would have been destroyed *sighs*

I felt so good, the post-op was reasonably comfortable and my recovery from the surgery was fast. And then this...

There are many reasons for stalls, they are part of the process. From what I have seen on this site, a stall at about 4 weeks is very common. KEEP WORKING YOUR PROGRAM! The scale will start to move again. Despite your ankle pain, try to increase your activity. For me that was the sure thing to break the stall - sometimes it took nearly a week, but the increased activity worked. Since you are over a month out, maybe you could try getting in a pool. Even walking in a pool will put less strain on your ankles.

In the mean time, there are many other measures of success than the scale. We all seem to focus on that one unit of measure, but take your waist, hip, and chest measurements. I would bet that they are down. Are your clothes fitting looser - another measure. Do you have more energy? There you go. Success is not just a number on a scale, real success is the improvement in our lives as we become healthier people.

Keep up the good work! You are doing great!!

You are not alone, I have hit a plateau at three weeks after surgery. I have lost close to 50 pounds. I am going to the gym 6 days a week, briskly walking about 3.5 to 4 miles a day. I have lost inches though. So I am all kinds of confused. The only problem I am having is getting all my Protein in. I called the dietitian and she said not to worry about the weight loss right now, just get all my protein in. I guess I am going to have to start drinking two shakes a day again.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
