Ok everyone. ..I am pushing abit on the stage 3..I am 2 wks out..I took a test run yesterday with a lil chicken salad..I didn't puree it the sound of that grossed me out..so I took baby bites an chewed the scrap out of it. I got the hiccups 2 times yesterday not just from food but also fluids..I am really getting tired an starting to put my nose up at Protein drinks..dying for a crunch..so I picked up a bag of organic veggie type chip stix an had a few I wanted crunch so bad I was hunting all over the kitchen for something. Had no sharp pains. Just felt guilty..my hubs seen the bag an took it he said he's guarding it..lol..I just needed a crunch!!! I'm getting sick of liquid. .I have had some yogurt. ..I think the unflavor whey protein I'm adding is getting to me. There's a certain smell an yes even a tad flavor. .can I get some input on wat others favs are brands that everyone's found they really like or is everyone getting in the same boat as far as gagging it down an living with it? Getting desperate here. I made home made tortilla Soup yesterday it was cloudy raining an only about 70 out sounded good so I did I drank the broth of it was good...I can still only get up to 2 an 3 oz in still at a time...my tummy growls all day..I swear I'm putting something in mouth every hr or 2...an suggestions? ? I am using chike protein for coffee an flavored beverages. ..I'm gagging now the unflavor powder for adding in Soups an yogurt. I still smell it an taste it...:)

I was sleeved on 7/14 . I'm really tired of my liquid diet choices and I'm having difficulty reading my new tiny tummy's signals about when its empty, full, etc. I was craving just a heavily squished piece of chicken and broccoli (the chicken part) today but settled for some egg drop Soup. Which was delicious and I stopped after about 4 oz certain that I must be full but not feeling full. which is the hardest thing to do when something yummy is in front of you. But that was about 4 hours ago and I can't get even a sip of Water down without feeling pressure all through my chest so I guess stopping the soup where I did was the right idea.

What signals do you all get when you "feel" full or "feel" hungry? For me it seems like real hunger = true emptiness is actual stomach gurgling with physical churning and audible gurgling going on. at which point one would think I'd have to be dehydrated for all that goings on. real fullness seems to be "oops too late only esophagus area left free" which is a lot of pressure but no pain thankfully as they removed my hiatal hernia at surgery or else I think this would be agonizing. I'm just having difficulty discerning when non-emergency hunger is and when are the last few bites the actually best last few since there are so few altogether in the first place. Anyone else having this problem?

seeminglingly totally unrelated but probably not... i'm feeling sort of tired and weak for the second day in a row and don't want to be worried. is this normal? saving the conversation with a doc about it for my already scheduled post-op on tuesday.

Lynm I just wanted to touch base because I think the no bowel movement thing goes hand in hand with the swollen thing. I think once that sucker moves you will be dropping weight and feeling better. I dont have a good scale at home (yet - it comes on tuesday) so I can't tell you about my weight loss just yet, but without getting gross, #2 finally came the day before yesterday and I'm certain that's where all the swelling goes.

I'm having same issue about when the full mark is. By the time it hits its to late an I end up with chest pressure a bit an hiccups..still learning here to! Still swelled here also. I'm 2 wks out..I've been 2 Dr postop visits doing good..he says it gets better every passing day. :)

Hi. Had my procedure on Thursday, ?July 17th. I've been in and out of consciousness. I've been pretty unsuccessful getting in 48 oz. per day. Mostly bc I'm sleeping so much and trying to avoid the pain that comes after swallowing. I get up and walk around. I've showered. I do have slight cravings but it's usually when I realize I am in fact hungry then I get something in as soon as possible. Any suggestions?

U must have had hernia repair? ? I had the really bad Esophageal spasms also...thought I was dying. They lasted a wk for me...they do calm down. I seen my internists an surgeon last wk...my internists said all nerve endings have been cut Theyr going to spasms. ..hang in there it kept me from wanting to swallow also..I stayed 2 days in hospital to stay on iv fluids bc of spasms...I new if I left I'd end up right back in ER with dehydration. But I was ready to go home by end of day 2 an went home that night. My internists called me in some lidocaine spray to spray way way back in me throat to swallow to numb the esophagus call an ask ur surgeon or internist if u have one to call u one in..don't spray in front of mouth then ull feel like u do at dentist lol...just way back in throat...it does get better if u don't get the spray...I grabbed my chest with every dang swallow I no how an wat ur goin thru..it's normal. ..I'm 2 wks out an def stand by my decision. ..hang in there!! :)

My surgery was July 15. Nausea kept me at hospital 2 nights because I couldn't drink anything. However, pain was minimal which was surprising! Stopped pain meds after first day. Starting phase 2. Adding cream Soups. Does anyone know why we have to strain the Soup which is very hard to do, instead of using blender?

Starting weight 260

Today 244.4

Only lost 7 lbs pre-surgery and didn't cheat at all. :(

To prevent blockage...or seepage. ..it's a pain I no...but they no wats best...hang in there..:)

No esophageal repair. Some things go down easier than others. I experience the pain when whatever I've consumed actually hits my stomach. Water sucks. shakes are ok. Jello is especially bad. broth is also a little iffy. Taking the percocets are no fun at all. But they help make things easier. I've been to the potty several times today and when I have to go it really hurts. My sister brought me muscle milk. Seems to be going down alright. I was drinking brown rice Protein mixed with Apple juice before and that was alright too. Doc suggested waiting until our first visit to start the supplements.< /p>

Am I the only person who didn't diet pre-op? They just told me nothing after midnight and that was fine. I got drunk the night before on the last beers I'll ever drink. I don't like beer all that much anyway.

I'm confused though. Wouldn't blending/pureeing be less chunks than straining? Or is it that they want to keep all the other stuff in the Soup out, other than the cream part?

I only had to do liquid diet for a week. Some have to go as long as 4 weeks! They told me it was based on your bmi. So maybe your bmi was low enough and you didn't need to.

I had mine 7/15. I am 5 days out now. I am feeling really good. I have a lot of energy and have been sleeping really well. I am sore when I wake up and if I cough deeply but other than that things are doing good. I am concerned I haven't had much of a bowel movement since I have been out of the hospital. I wondered how others have been feeling in that regards.

Glad to follow this group.

?... Does anyone know why we have to strain the Soup which is very hard to do, instead of using blender?:(

I put my soup, as is, in my Vitamix and purée it. I have been having stomach cramps with ANYthing I put in my mouth. The puréed soup did cause them to be any worse.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
