Mirrors and pictures

Recommended Posts

I've lost over 60lbs and I still see a heffer. Sometimes I feel good. Sometimes I don't. Sometimes I don't recognise myself in the reflection of shop front windows. Sometimes I don't know who I am, physically, any more.

The picture I posted on here recently, I posted on Facebook. The response was fairly overwhelming. People saying I looked 'fabulous' (code for 'sheesh you've lost some weight'). I still can't really see it. I wish I could, but I don't. I feel happy. I know I'm thinner - my clothes say so. I feel healthier, but goddamn it this body dysmorphia thing is a real problem.

Hopefully some time this century I'll finally see the difference with my eyes, rather than blindly recognising it through the numbers on my new clothing.

Photos? I'd generally prefer to be water-boarded.

Still waiting for that elusive 'butterfly' moment....

Andrea when I have lost 73 lbs I hope I won't mind looking in the mirror either :)

Madam Rev I saw the picture you posted on here and I think you are looking awesome. I hope you can one day soon look in the mirror and see what everyone else sees.

Take care ladies and thanks for your comments.

The funny thing is that I look in the mirror and logically know I have to look smaller, but I don't see it. I've lived with being fat for most of my 37 years. I went to my salon today and my stylist said to me "girl you look good. I can totally see how much thinner you are" . I even noticed that their smocks now button all the way down. Before I couldn't button past the third button. It's just a very strange disconnect between what I see vs what is real. But I never did have issues looking at my face. I'm cute. LOL!!

I know exactly what you mean @@Dreamin Again. I also avoid mirrors and can't remember when I last had my picture willingly taken lol I am hoping by this time next year to feel so much better about myself that I won't mind the occasional picture and that I will be able to look more kindly at my reflection in the mirror. I hope the same for everyone else who chimed in on this thread.

Madam, I totally get you. I had to be shown a picture taken by a colleage to begin to see the difference. Still, it is a pretty nasty mind fk.

I still avoid mirrors and reflective glass (freezer section in the grocery store I am not looking at you), but I am forcing myself to look in the mirror at the gym.

While I am still 60 pounds away from goal, I need to work on getting comfortable with "me" again. I am getting better about pics but I still have not posted any to my FB...baby steps I guess.

I actually found a pic of me at my goal weight many years ago-the only one I had left, and I have it taped to my computer at work...a reminder and an encouragment of sorts.

Sometimes I wish I could yank out my brain and play that stupid antique "Operation" game and rewire my hard drive...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
