Worried because I haven't found a protein shake yet.

Hey sorry forgot to mention most of these muscle milk are not made with milk products. I recommend goin to a local grocery grabbing one (ready to drink serving size bottle) out of the fridge n giving it a try before u decide to buy. I have a whey Protein just sitting here that I found terrible.

i LOVE the Muscle Milk Light 100 cal chocolate or the Pro Series Mint chocolate. I mix either with skim milk and ice to increase the Protein count and the liquid amounts.

i was ok with the nectar drinks prior to surgery but post i cannot stand the whey taste of ANY of the drinks. Muscle Milk light does not have any whey taste or chalky flavor. really good.

I use Unjury personally. I've been on a kick of using 8 ozs Trop 50 orange juice (reduced sugar and carbs - within my 10 per serving guideline) and I add a scoop of vanilla unjury to it. It's pretty tasty if I say so myself. Not a daily thing for me but when I need a good 20 grams Protein for a day it helps! Also when I drank Optifast pre-op, I used to mix a shake with Water, add a truvia (Splenda) packet, ice and a flavor extract - peppermint with chocolate shakes was amazing! That made them more palatable at least :)

I would check with your doctor about mixing things with the Protein shake – I know it varies from doctor to doctor but I know personally I wasn't allowed to mix anything other than Water with the Protein Shake for at least the first few weeks… Just a suggestion as it was a point of confusion for me. I didn't realize until the last minute. What is the things that really helped though was being able to add extra X to the shakes – vanilla extract is a biggie and there's also, and strawberry extracts as well. There's others but those were the main ones I used.

Good Luck

I found Bariatric Advantage s James to be the best. They are smooth and not gritty- also not too sweet. Or a nice cream is my favorite flavor. It can be pur based on the Bariatric Advantage website or Amazon. They are costly, so I sampled well before surgery & gradually stocked up to s pre a d out the cost. Th e y are s great source of Protein.< /p>

Hi there I am new here I just went to SAMs Club and bought the Premier Protein shakes they took $4.00 off at the register and they cost regularly $15.98 so what I really paid was $11.98 for a 12 pack I think the strawberry is a few dollars more but worth it and they are very tasty! I still do not have a surgery date thinking early August just waiting on paperwork!

I am 7 days post op. I have tried the premiere chocolate. It's ok. But I like the taste of the Ensure Active Hi Protein Milk Chocolate. Premiere has 30gr protein in 11 oz and the Ensure has 25gr in 14 oz. You need to get in 75gr of protein daily so take that into consideration because you can only consume small amounts 4-6 oz.

I found the ready to drink shakes easier to tolerate than the powders. I tried a few vanilla varieties and decided to stick to chocolate ones. If you haven't tried Ensure High Protein Milk Chocolate flavor, I would check it out- is has a much thinner, smoother texture than some of the others. The taste of premiere protein chocolate is ok but the texture is way too thick for me so I thin it with Water. Muscle Milk Light is pretty good too and is lactose free. On a whim I tried their mango peach variety and I actually really liked it but it is hard to find. You might want to order a sample pack from unjury- the protein "chicken" broth is really good and a wonderful break from the shakes!

My Dr prefers that his patients use the Premier Protein drinks because they are soo high in Protein - 30g. I like the chocolate flavor. As with any of these drinks... they just have to be cold!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
