When can I start working out after pos sleeve

Hi

Have surgery for sleeve july 22nd..Roughly when can you start actually moving around and then stepping it up on the elliptical & weighs at the gmy

Whenever your surgeon says you can . . . definitely ask him, each surgeon has his or her own guidelines.

I just do cardio right now up to a hr on the elliptical . I started a week out of surgery . I felt like I was going to die when I guested started I was sleeved may 30 of 2014

Just start slow movement is movement and it will help clear your body from all the antiastesa and pain meds .. I think

I started walking a treadmill a week after surgery. I just had my 6 week checkup & I can now do some weights. Surgeons are different in what they allow. In my case I'm 70 yrs old & on oxygen. My goal is to get rid of the CPAP at night & hopefully the oxygen, eventually. Exercise will help me achieve this goal.

My doctor told me to wait about a month and half. To start walking more and more then slowly get into working out as my body heals and adjusts.

I agree you must talk to your surgeon about this.

I started the treadmill and elliptical two weeks after surgery real slow.

Stay away from heavy lifting or you will cause major problems until your surgeon gives the okay.

In the hospital they will get you walking a few times a day and they will want you to continue that as much as you can at home. It helps rid your body of gas that builds up from the stuff they use to put you out and inflate your stomach, also the fluids move out of your body faster from the IV.

It's a funny thing about the gym and thoughts of rigorous exercise and weight lifting routines. With the surgery done, you tend to think the quicker you get to the gym and start pumping Iron, you can lose weight faster and gain lots of muscle. I know that was my thoughts.

My Doc said 6 weeks for the gym and weights. So at 6 weeks on the dot, I joined a gym and started all kinds of weight lifting and cardio workouts. The thing is......it didn't really speed up the losses or the muscle gain. I didn't notice any additional weight losses during or following my gym sessions. And the sessions are tedious and boring and hard to stay modivated about always going.

And the real kicker is, I usually see the biggest losses just doing routine outdoor activities, like mowing the lawn or washing the car or going fishing. Whenever I did something outside that resulted in a little sweat, I saw immediate results.

I still go to the gym mind you. And as I lose the weight, I can really notice my cardio and weight routines increasing dramatically. But the weight is gonna take time to get off and while the gym helps, I found it did not provide the biggest benefit. Just slowly get back into the usual indoor or outdoor physical routines and working up a sweat. It's all exercise and doing something productive or enjoyable, while burning the calories just doesn't seem so much like exercise. I rarely even notice I am exerting such energy when doing routine activities and then I'm quite surprised later by the scale. ;)

One thing surprised me because it didn't come up til afterwards. At my 1 month checkup my dr tells me not to do anything "Pounding" like jogging, running or vigorous bedroom stuff, and also NO ab work or anything that increases the "abdominal pressure" at all including Zumba and aerobics classes. He said the minimum it takes the suture line to heal internally is 6 weeks and that's minimum. Weight lifting limited to 20 lbs, so I'm not even doing lifting yet until he clears me to go higher/normal amounts.

Starting out, I was walking from day one and now can do 3 miles at one clip (get a pedometer, you master what you measure) Once the incisions are scabbed up good, it's ok to swim in most cases. Some of my comrades went bike riding, but I was afraid of falling and hurting myself trying to catch myself.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
